employees and retirees will expire on May 31. Effective June 1, only Air

will be unable to enjoy their travel privileges. While most ID cards have

Canadian Airlines’ employees who haven’t submitted their photo, must do so
by May 20. If you have questions, please call 1-866-473-4732. In addition,

Details Finalized For Employee Computer Purchase Program. It’s been a long
time coming, but the details of the Employee Computer Purchase Program are
finalized. We’ve used our purchasing power to secure a special discount with
three different vendors – IBM, Dell and Gateway Country Computers. You must
deal directly with these vendors to understand which one is offering the
best package and pricing for you, depending on your technology requirements
and budget. For details about the program, management employees will receive
a corporate e-mail, and all other employees should refer to the insert in
your May pay stub. Currently, this program is only available to all
Canada-based employees and retirees of Air Canada; our subsidiaries have
also been invited to extend this program to their Canada-based employees. We
’re still working on a Computer Purchase Program for employees based in the
U.S. and International stations.

Do Not Discuss Security Procedures. To protect the integrity of our safety
procedures, employees (AND RETIREES) shouldn’t discuss or reveal any
security related processes – Explosives Detection Systems (EDS), bag match
and baggage trace – with anyone. Revealing any information on how we conduct
security is against the law, and seriously compromises customer and employee
safety. Only regulators such as the FAA and Transport Canada can disclose
details of security regulations. If asked, employees should state that Air
Canada fully complies with, or exceeds, the requirements of the law.

Hi Folks!
I really want to thank you and the most recent author of the story of
CF-CPY. It was so informative and enjoyable. There are lots of pictures and
stories about that airplane and I'm really glad to see them available here.
I wanted to contribute a little bit of a story about my relationship to that
great old airplane. I never flew her officially but had some time sitting in
the seat while airborne. As a young kid I had joined CPA as a Learner, Air
Engineer. I was in the process of getting a Commercial Pilot Licence and
wanted desperately to fly with that airline. My interest in airplanes had
begun at the age of 3 years when I was allowed to look into the cabin of a
L-10a. It might have been CF-TCC. That set me on a life long love of
airplanes. (Not too unlike a host of other budding pilots)
I took a real liking to CPY and considered her to be 'my' airplane and felt
she needed a bit of special attention. Those of you who flew her a lot can
correct me, but I thought the control wheels had been wrapped with whipcord
and then waterglassed. That made them very comfortable (at least to my
mind). When the airplane was in the hangar I made sure I was assigned to the
DI (daily inspection). We used to do a hydrometer check on the batteries and
if they met the mark they were OK. I always changed the batteries on CPY as
she was 'my' airplane. I spent many happy hours in the hangar fussing over
that airplane in particular, along with the rest of the fleet.
I was accepted for pilot training at CPA but when the course date came and
went they laid off about 50 pilots! I applied to TCA and was in groundschool
6 weeks later. I was blessed to continue on there for more than 39 years as
a pilot. Thanks again to all who have provided information regarding that
great old lady--- CF-CPY.
Regards, George Mills

Re CF_TCC
Hi Alan. (Rust)
Here is a slightly different schedule. The only changes show the Winnipeg
recurrent training, a stop at Leamington Ont. on the way to Montreal and
also the Lachute Air Show as static display.
Lachute and Leamington just asked us and since the aircraft was enroute
and not planned for anything on those dates, we will go there. It also
helps defray the ferry costs to Montreal by going to Leamington.
Hi Alan, (McLeod)
Thanks for keeping me update to date. I have revised the schedule Online.

Subject: Retiree Parking Vancouver Operations Centre
TO ALL AC/CAIL RETIREES
With the planned employment of a significant number of additional aircraft
maintenance employees at the Operations Centre the continued availability of
Retiree Parking has again become an issue.
All employees who regularly park at the Centre are now being issued new
Parking Passes and after May 1st, 2002, any vehicle not displaying a valid
Parking Pass will be subject to being towed.
We have been assured that the Retiree Parking passes issued by Security at
the East Entrance in accordance with the present policy, will continue to be
valid for Retiree Parking for a maximum period of 30 days from date of
issue. As some of these designated spaces are taken up by catering trucks we
ask that you first use any vacant "Retiree Parking" spaces and only when
they are full, continue to park next to the fence immediately to the North
of the retiree area, trying as much as possible, not to park in a space that
might interfere with regular employees who are coming and going on a daily
basis.
As you know, Retiree Parking has always been subject to the ongoing
availability of space and will come under even closer scrutiny in the future
as the remaining space is allocated. While we are hopeful this privilege
will continue to be available indefinitely, we cannot promise it beyond the
minimum of 30 days notice of any change, which we have been promised we will
be given.
This 30 day notice would cover the expiration of any passes issued at that
time and afford an opportunity to communicate the revised information via
email or any other timely means which may be available.
In view of time constraints, this Memo is being sent to you by email which
should reach approximately 250 Pionair members. However, as there will still
be many who will not receive this directly, it would be greatly appreciated
if you would pass this information along to other Pionair members who you
may be in contact with. Your assistance in this regard would be greatly
appreciated.
Should you wish to receive further information would you kindly call Bill

Kathleen Hogan sends us this plea -
Former TCA employee, Rita Schefter
Could (anyone) help me in my search about career information about my
mother, Rita Schefter, who worked for the airline from about 1940 to 1949.
She was one of the first, if not the first, female radio operators for the
airline. I have an undated picture of her, along with Ruth Berkey and Irene
Williams, receiving their
five year pins from Steve Himmelman, Toronto Station manager.
My mother died last September, after being in poor health for some years,
so I was unable to ask her many of the questions I had. If anyone knew my
mother, I would very much appreciate hearing from them.
Thank you,

He had worked for British Airways for 41 years
taking early retirement in 1977. He had retired as Finance Manager for
North America, and had worked in Gander during WWII. If you have any
connection with British Airways, their retirees who call themselves the
OWLs (Ones We Like) will be having a reunion in England about now or the
beginning of May. I know that they would like to be informed as my
brother was looking forward to being there before his cancer took over.
I have no way of knowing how to get in touch with them. If you are able
to forward this, I would very much appreciate it. However if you cannot
it is okay as I know that they will eventually find out.
Thank you.

. Remember when!
DC-3 Windtee CF-CPY Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada.
Built in 1942, she spent several months in camouflage flying with United
States Army Airforce on transport missions to India & China.
During this time the aircraft was condemned and was eventually returned to
the the U.S. where it was repaired. At the end of the war she was converted
to the Civilian DC-3 configuration and sold to Canadian Pacific Airlines where
she served 15 years flying Canadian scheduled routes, as CF-CPY.
In 1960 the aircraft was sold to Connelly - Dawson
Airways of Dawson City and spent the next 6 years flying cargo to places
like Old Crow and oil exploration camps in Eagle Plains. In 1966 until her
last flight in November of 1970, she was based out of Whitehorse serving Yukon
scheduled
routes for Great Northern Airways. When Great Northern Airways declared
bankrupcy, ownership of the DC-3 fleet was transferred to Northward
Airlines.
CPY by then was not operational and used for parts. It was the idea of Joe
Muff to donate the aircraft to the Yukon Flying Club and use it as some kind
of monument. The aircraft was then donated to the Flying Club by Northward
Airlines, who also donated the heated hangar space to restore CPY for the
weathervane monument.
In 1977 the Yukon Flying Club undertook the restoration of the DC-3 to it's
original Canadian Pacific colors and in 1981 it was mounted on a pivot
pedestal. It takes a 5 knot wind to move the plane. A Katimavik project did
all the exterior
painting of the aircraft. In October of 1993 the Yukon Transportation Museum
took ownership of the DC-3.
In July 29, 1998 the aircraft was removed from it's pedistal to facilitate
a second round of restoration.
As of July, 2001, the restoration project is continuing. A total of 1200
person/hours of volunteer time involving over 30 people has gone into the
restoration.
As of 1997 the DC-3 are no longer used in the Yukon. The last remaining DC-3
in the Yukon that flew passengers and cargo with Air North have been sold. The
last one left in May of 1998, they were sold to USA cargo companies and private
owners (Colorado, Oshkosh)
This DC-3 is very unique and holds a wealth of history and service to the
Yukon, not only is it part of early aviation history but at present offers a
unique tourist and resident attraction.

. Smilie.
Submitted By Art Kupchanko.
"Photographer"
The photographer for a national magazine was assigned to get photos of an
enormous forest fire.
Smoke at the scene was too thick to get any good shots, so he frantically
called his home office to hire a plane.
"It will be waiting for you at the airport!" he was assured by his editor.
As soon as he got to the small, rural airport, sure enough, a plane was warming
up near the runway. He jumped in with his equipment and yelled, "Let's go!
Let's go!" The pilot swung the plane into the wind and soon they were in the
air.
"Fly over the north side of the fire," said the photographer, "and make three
or four low level passes."
"Why?" asked the pilot.
"Because I'm going to take pictures! I'm a photographer, and photographers take
pictures!" said the photographer with great exasperation and impatience.
After a long pause the pilot said, "You mean you're not the instructor?"

Neill at 604-277-3587 or should he not be available Clare Ash at
604-241-4600 or email
604-943-0494 email
Thank you for your continued cooperation in strictly adhering to the
guidelines of this policy.
