'Your subscribers might be interested in the Feb 1998 issue of my
favourite magazine - Airways. The front cover has a picture much
like the Dec. 15 Horizons of an AC 340 over the Rockies and the
main feature is a 9 page article on Air Canada's 60th anniversary.

. NEWS FROM THE DISTRICTS.
From the Winter edition of the Montreal Pionairs 'Sentinel'
DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT
By: Russ Reynard
The early morning hours of October 15 saw approximately 20 Montreal
area Pionairs on hand at Dorval base to help get off the 1997 Dream
flight. Since 1989 Air Canada employees have organised the trip of
a lifetime for over 1500 terminally ill, abused or underprivileged
children from all over Canada. Our kids come to us from all over
Quebec.
~ Dreams take Flight ~ is not an official Air Canada venture.
The planning, organising and fund raising is done by employees from
all sectors of the company, on their own time and on a volunteer
basis. In addition, the flight itself is manned by a volunteer
crew of pilots and flight attendants. Everyone works together to
make our children's dreams a reality.
The Pionair volunteers were there to help "process" the children
as they checked in. It is very important that we obtain as much
information as possible on each child so that the group leaders can
respond to any special needs during the trip.
The children are divided into groups of eight. Each group has a
group leader and three other adult escorts. This year, Pionair
Michel Bériau from Quebec City was the Pionair escort who travelled
with the children to Disney World in Florida. Michel told us that
he was one tired Pionair by the time they were back in Montréal
late that same evening. He also told us that he and his kids had
a day that they would never forget.
Dreams really do take flight.
FROM ALBERTA.
Mark down Feb 19th and Apr 23, that is when you can meet the
local Pionairs for lunch at 11.30 am. Venue: Royal Canadian Legion
on Kensington Road NW, Calgary. Visiting Pionairs are more than
welcome.

. FOUND ON THE INTERNET
WORTH ITS WEIGHT IN GOLD?
The FAA has figured out a response to the Pentagon's $25,000 toilet
seats and $400 hammers: a $100,000 closet door.
That's the amount the agency proposes to fine Delta Air Lines for
operating a 757 "with an inoperative first class coat closet door."
MECHANIC CHARGED IN O'HARE TAMPERING:
The O'Hare-based mechanic who "found" some cut wires on a United
Express BAe ATP regional turboprop November 29 was charged with
cutting the wires himself last week.
Gerald Bradshaw, 31, allegedly sliced the wiring in an effort to
get a fellow mechanic fired.
HIGH ON RELIGION?
The devil didn't make him do it. Dean William Tranmmel, 21, of
Silver Spring, Maryland was on USAirways Flight 38 from LAX to BWI
Tuesday when he reportedly began "blessing" passengers in the
belief Jesus Christ was within him.
What was really within him was LSD. Trammel allegedly threw a flight
attendant across three seats and bit a passenger before being
restrained.
S. CLAUS GETS FAA APPROVALS:
Despite an innovative propulsion system, experimental navigation
devices and unfortunate aerodynamics, the FAA nonetheless approved
a trans-global flight plan for December 24-25 filed by one S. Claus
under a "special amendment" to its Open Skies agreements with other
countries.

. Smilie.
Gordon Dalziel found this on the internet recently:
While cruising at 40,000 feet, the airplane shuddered and
Mr. Benson looked out the window.
"Good lord!" he screamed, "one of the engines just blew up!"
Other passengers left their seats and came running over;
suddenly the aircraft was rocked by a second blast as yet another
engine exploded on the other side.
The passengers were in a panic now, and even the stewardesses
couldn't maintain order.
Just then, standing tall and smiling confidently, the pilot
strode from the cockpit and assured everyone that there was nothing
to worry about. His words and his demeanor seemed to make most of the
passengers feel better, and they sat down as the pilot calmly walked
to the door of the aircraft. There, he grabbed several packages from
under the seats and began handing them to the flight attendants.
Each crew member attached the package to their backs.
"Say," spoke up an alert passenger, "aren't those parachutes?"
The pilot said they were. The passenger went on, "But I thought you
said there was nothing to worry about?"
"There isn't," replied the pilot as a third engine exploded.
"We're going to get help."
