WOMEN IN AVIATION INVITE DAUGHTERS TO 2012 CONFERENCE The 2012 Women in Aviation Conference, coming up next March in Dallas, Texas, will include a day-long program designed for the daughters of those who attend, the group announced this week at EAA AirVenture. "Bring Your Daughter to the Conference Day" is aimed at girls age 10 to 18 and will take place on Saturday, March 10. A remark by EAA President Rod Hightower was the inspiration for the new program, said Peggy Chabrian, president of Women in Aviation International.
When Hightower told her he was planning to bring his own daughters to the WAI conference, the idea of others bringing their daughters was put in motion. Programs are also in the works to reach out to local Girl Scout groups to invite girls who might not otherwise be introduced to aviation. About 200 girls are expected to participate

Reader Submitted Photos - The photos and information below was sent to us by our faithful readers. If you would like to send us some old photos you have lying around. we will consider them for publication in a future NetLetter. We prefer good quality airline related photos, with descriptive text included with the submission.
During a recent visit to the BC Aviation Museum, Al Catterall handed over several photos of people but they are unidentified. The photos were taken in February, 1964 and we have published them in the hopes someone can identify them. Below are two employees checking out the hose for a ground power unit. The person on the right is thought to be John McBride.

Vintage Aero PinUp (from Glidepath, the museum's quarterly newsletter) On June 26, the Canadian Museum of Flight in Langley, B.C. hosted a MeetUp of the Metro Vancouver Photography Workshop, organized by Chris Pike.
The Museum provided the venue and the props (pun intended), and Chris provided the models dressed in appropriate period clothing, and fifteen enthusiastic photographers created the images, a sample of which is shown below.
The images confirm what aviation enthusists all know: aircraft displays are objects of art, character and emotion. After the event, the participants rated their MeetUp as a 5 star event. For more images, and for more information on the Metro Vancouver Photography Workshop, please visit their website www.mvpworkshops.ca; look under either "past" events or "photos" for the Vintage Aero PinUp photo gallery or click on the photo below.

Charter Services and Sales joined forces earlier this year and participated in the Third Annual Conference and Trade Show of the Alliance of Canadian Travel Associations (ACTA).
Over 1500 delegates attended the three day Conference in Toronto not to mention several hundred people who toured the Trade Show. Pacific Western's display booth was a special attraction as the "urban cowboys" handed out Pacific Western scarves to everyone who stopped by.
Approximately 300 people attended the Friday morning Whoop-Up breakfast sponsored by PWA.

A famous charter was the 1972 Gordon Securities Charter. The crew: Captain Wendel Clark; First Officer, Dave Simpson; Flight Engineer, Fred Ritz; Flight Attendants: Jim Bisaiion, Mary Ann Garbencius, Ivy Dunn, Lynn Keefe; Sales (YXD) Co-ordinator, Ken Wamsley.
The routing: Montreal, Winnipeg, Yellowknife, Resolute, Romulus, lnuvik, Deadhorse Prudoe Bay, Fairbanks, Calgary.
Gordon Securities of Montreal had chartered aircraft 732 (CF-PWE). This was the first P. W. charter to ever have in-flight movies, they were about pipelines, Arctic shipping, environmental concerns, etc.
The four day charter (on sked throughout) was the first jet to land at such a northern location (the Romulus Oil Rig site on Elismere Island). This eastern investment group were being shown Canada's northern oil play utilizing western expertise in the best tradition.... P. W. staff and aircraft 732. After service with PWA, 732 was the first B737 to reach the "10,000 hours" mark. The aircraft eventually ended up with Nigeria Airways in Lagos Nigeria.

Shown on June 22nd 1960, are the Traffic Employees Assn (T.E.A.). The executive officers during 1970 were left to right; Pat Desa, Ron Babiy, Doug Ross and Ian Lambton. |
This Stranraer aircraft was purchased from PWA by several people including Al Fraser of the PWA maintenance staff.
The aircraft was moved to Abbotford Airport and rebuilt before being sold to the British Historical Society in the U.K. As you will notice, this is a float plane, so a 4 wheeled dolly was fashioned upon which the aircraft sat. The engines were revved up and the aircraft departed on a normal takeoff. The dolly was last seen charging off into the sunset.
Shown here are three guys relaxing with the Stranraer in 1953. Left to right: Archie Bridger, Harold Johnson, Al Fraser.

Reader's Feedback - Compiled by Terry Baker |
Every week we ask our readers for their stories or feedback on what they have read here in previous issues. Below is the feedback we have received recently.
Reed Park spotted our error in NetLetter nr 1173 -
I think the fella mentioned as "Waiter Fowler" is actually "Walter Fowler".
Quote Issue dated - October 1973 Found in the "Horizons" magazine -
Bob Dailey, Cargo Facilities Technician, Matton sent us (the editors of the magazine) this photo, courtesy of a neighbor, Jack Hunter "who has been in Air Transport since Pontius was a pilot". It was taken at Cranbrook, B.C. in the summer of 1938, and shows a Lockheed L10A with, from the left: Barney Rawson, Ron George, unknown, unknown, Waiter Fowler, and ? Coulson. Oldtimers will no doubt recognize the unknowns. Unquote
But what the heck. None of us can be perfect all the time. I enjoy very much the Netletter.
Regards Reed Park son of Ellie Park, long retired.

Europe continues to be very busy for employee stand-by travel! During the current peak summer travel period, employees should be aware of the very high flight loads departing all our European stations. As our colleagues in Europe are busy attending to our customers, they may be unable to assist employees in obtaining back-up ZED tickets on other airlines. Please ensure you arrange and purchase your back-up ZED tickets prior to your departure from home! Please also remember that some stations including Madrid and Zurich do not have Employee Ticketing facilities. We expect Europe flights to remain busy for the next few weeks. Other airlines are experiencing similar loads, so don't be caught waiting for days, be prepared! When travelling, all employees are expected to check-in on the web or at the kiosks.(source Daily)
