. Nice to know.
Vancouver’s AIF rolled into ticket price June 1. Vancouver’s Airport
Improvement Fee will be added directly to airline tickets beginning June 1,
and will no longer be collected in the terminal after that date. Most other
major airports add the fee to tickets. The Airport Authority announced in
February a $1.4 billion Cdn capital improvement program that will include
nine new international gates, domestic terminal renovations, the addition
of a rapid transit line to the airport and other improvements. The airport
is raising the AIF for North America destinations from $10 to $15 starting
Jan. 1, 2005. The fees for B.C. and international destinations will remain
unchanged.
Air Canada news.
Non-stop service from Toronto to Hong Kong with A340-500 will begin this
summer. With the delivery this summer of our first A340-500 aircraft, we
announced the introduction of first-ever non-stop service from Toronto to
Hong Kong. The A340-500 is the world’s longest range airliner and features
lie-flat seats, and state-of-the-art entertainment. Effective 1st August,
our new daily non-stop service, with a flight time of 15.5 hours will link
eastern North America and southeast Asia with daily flights that will cut
more than four and a half hours travel time compared to other carriers’
best routings.
Making the travel experience easier Air Canada introduces free Internet
access at selected airports. Over the next few weeks, Air Canada will
introduce Internet Podiums for customers to use free of charge to purchase
tickets, modify existing online changeable reservations, as well as to use
a Latitude pass flight credit. The Internet Podium will be linked to
www.aircanada.com . In addition, it may be used by active or retired
employees to access the Employee Travel Site, at www.travel.aircanada.ca,
to list for flights.
Employees to use new London kiosks. If you're travelling from London,
England, you should be aware that employees are to use the new common-use
check-in kiosks recently installed by the airport authority. The kiosks are
similar to the ones in Canada that can be accessed by using your company ID
or a credit card. As mentioned earlier in the Daily, active and retired
employees who use the kiosks, but are not assigned a seat, should go to the
"Triangle" counter at D46 for seat assignment. D46 is adjacent to the
kiosks, which are located at the front of cul-de-sac D.

. Found on the internet.
Due to the spike in crude oil prices during the first quarter of this
year, purchase prices for aircraft fuel have experienced a similarly sharp
rise. At the time of writing, the cost of one ton of kerosene had already
hit US$ 390.

. Terry's travel tips.
The following tip from the London England monthly newsletter issued by Tony
Coleman -
When travelling to the USA, and using a non-ticket pass, i.e. the
electronic-type paper ticket, it is advisable to have a printed-out
itinerary of your travel routings. One of our colleagues had a problem
with the pre-clearance at Toronto.
Also, don’t forget you must have the first night’s accommodation booked in
advance so that you have the address handy to give to the pre-clearance
officials.
The Radisson Edwardian group, with 8 splendid hotels in central London,
UK., and one at Heathrow airport have given us access to real-time ‘live’
availability searching just for ‘id’ rates ! This means that with just one
click from idDeals you can now search for the dates you want and Radisson
Edwardian will instantly respond and let you know if ‘id’ rates are
available. And if an ‘id’ rate is not available they will always give the
option of the next best public rates. Have a test drive now, at
http://www.idDeals.com Use the ‘Deal Search’ menu for UK / Central London.
