For employee travel to and from Hawaii. Even under normal circumstances,
Honolulu is a difficult city to travel to or from. Due to recent irregular
operations, it’s even more of a challenge for employee travel, as many Air
Canada non-revenue passengers are not getting on flights out of Honolulu.
Therefore, to avoid this uncertainty, you’re asked to consider alternate
fun travel destinations for the next couple of weeks. If you still intend
to travel to Hawaii, we recommend you purchase ZED fares on alternate
airlines as back up. For a list of options using ZED fares, log on to the
Employee Travel Site.

Air Canada News:
Air Canada says “Hola!” to Havana, new Cuba services include more flights,
new routes and convenience of scheduled flights providing new air-only
option. Sept. 2nd., Air Canada announced significant improvements in air
services to Cuba, which include more flights, new routes and the
introduction of scheduled air services on most of the 15 routes the company
operates to Cuba from cities across Canada. With the introduction of
scheduled air services, in addition to charter options, we now offer
customers the choice of purchasing air travel only or the convenience of
inclusive holiday packages available in Canada through Air Canada
Vacations. Moreover, on Dec. 2, Air Canada will launch year round, non-stop
service between Toronto and Havana, and along with the introduction of this
service, we will boost our overall services to Cuba this winter by offering
customers the unprecedented choice of up to 25 scheduled flights and two
charter-only flights per week from seven cities across Canada to five
destinations in Cuba. Among the new winter services this coming season, we
will introduce non-stop flights between Montreal-Cayo Largo,
Moncton-Holguin and Halifax-Varadero.

The YYZ Airport Air Canada Employee Recognition Committee is hosting a
retirement party for 35 customer sales & service agents who have retired
this year. There are some CP included in the group this year; most however,
are ex-AC.

Tickets $25.00 per person to cover dinner and gifts.
Last year's party attracted over 500 guests, from as far away as Vancouver,
London England, Halifax.

A CFM56-3C engine in service with Malev has just established a new
all-time world record for initial time on wing. Earlier this month, the
engine reached 40, 538 hours and 17,405 cycles without a single shop visit,
surpassing the previous record of 40,531 hours set in 2000.
Concorde took off from Barbados for the very last time on Saturday (30th
August) as the island bids a fond farewell to the aircraft which has been
gracing its skies for the past 21 years.

There will be a business meeting followed by a guest speaker. Our guest
speaker for this meeting will be, Donald R."Doc" Payne-DFC,AFC. He flew with
the RCAF and CAF from 1942-1974. He is a pilot with extensive experience on:
RAF Spitfires and Lancasters. Flew with 426 (T)Squadron on North Stars
(Korean Airlift), 427(F)Squadron- 3(F) Wing-Zweibruecken,Germany, and 121
Rescue Unit- later 442 Transport and Rescue Squadron., Comox, BC. "Doc"
Payne was one of the last pilots to fly a Bristol Bolingbroke in 1948.

Singapore Airlines became the world's second largest Boeing [NYSE: BA]
777 operator and largest non-U.S. 777 operator this week with the delivery
of its 50th 777. The airplane, a 777-200ER, joins 41 other 777-200s and
eight 777-300s in the Singapore Airlines' fleet.

Just 24 years ago, a group was formed called Canadian Maple Wings Association.
The group was founded by Gretchen Aird and Helen McEwan. The association
represents alumni flight attendants from Air Canada and the former Trans-
Canada Air Lines. Its mandate is to operate as a non profit, non sectarian
and non partisan organisation that supports medical research and charitable
causes, including 'Dreams Take Flight'.

From the Central Ontario District -
On August 11th we in the Central Ontario District held our 3rd annual Best
Ball Scramble Golf Tournament at the Oakville Executive Golf Course with
Dinner at Fogalars.
A Total of 13 Groups participated in the Golf Tournament and several more
joined for the Dinner. It was a great day and all those who came enjoyed
themselves, met some new friends and the food was great.
Two Groups were tied for 1st place and by applying the retrogression
process, the winners of the Best Ball Scramble were: Jean-Pierre Corbet,
David Williams and Marilyn Walker
Longest Drive Women: Ellie Lillie; Men: Peter Schofield
Closest to the Pin Women: Norma Donaldson; Men: Jean-Pierre Corbet

Even the Pros Have Their Moments: Reader john Kirchner reports on a
recent flight from Mexico City to Dallas/Ft Worth aboard an American MD-80.
The female flight attendant did her spiel in English about the safety
features of "our Super-80," followed by her Spanish-speaking male
counterpart, who referred to "nuestro DC-BO." And Australian reader David
Gerber reports on the SAAB 340 flight attendant aboard his trip to Sydney
from Albury, New South Wales. She welcomed her passengers, informing them,
"Your flight today is under the command of Captain
Andrew...err...umm...Wait a sec'l" She then stuck her head into the cockpit
to ask her captain's name.
Tired of Airline Food? Is there any coincidence to the recent departures of
two top-level Northwest executives? First it was President and CEO John
Dasburg, who left to become chairman of Burger King Corporation. Then
Stephen Gorman, head of technical and flight ops, left to become North
American president of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts. Guess they both had a craving
for better food. Just like the passengers.
