. Need to know.

The policy information regarding pass travel published in Netletter Nr 690 was

tentative,

and has indeed changed already.

The effective date of the proposed changes has not yet been

fixed. Much will depend on the development of the new

automation. The official target is fall of this year. It may

well be a bit later.

The intent is to make as much travel as possible ticketless.

Again, we need to wait for the systems development before

publishing any hard policy.

American Airlines Offers ZED Fares To Air Canada Employees. Effective

immediately, all active and retired Air Canada and Air Canada Jazz employees,

their spouses and dependent children under the age of 21 can travel on American

using a ZED fare.

Vancouver Ticket Counter Notice. On June 1, the Air Canada ticket counter

located at the Vancouver "Park-N-Fly" on Miller Road, stopped issuing tickets.

>From this point on, employees/retiree are to use the main terminal for their

ticketing needs. The Air Canada ticketing counters are located between the

domestic and international departure counters on level 1 in the main Vancouver

terminal. Please allow enough time for ticket processing.

With the recent announcement that Pacific Coastal will be operating Vancouver

to Comox

we have this information -

Air Canada have a low zed (ZL) agreement with Pacific Coastal.

They will not be accepting our u-write trip pass tickets.

The ZED pricing grid for your reference.

. Air Canada news.

From the YYZNEWS issued by Brian Dunn -

Calgary-Phoenix route has been reduced for the summer season to two weekly

flights from June 3rd to October 3rd.

All Tango flights at Toronto airport will be moving to Terminal 3 effective

June 15th. Passengers will be checked in and board their Tango flight at a T3

gate. This was due to Tango's growth and the lack of domestic gate space at

Terminal 2.

Competitive News:

Jetsgo Is A Go. On June 12, Jetsgo will begin service on a domestic route

network that includes Toronto, Vancouver, Winnipeg, Montreal and Halifax, with

seasonal service to Sydney, NS and Stephenville. Following the no-frills trend,

the discount carrier will not have business class service or a lounge, and

customers will have to pay for food and beverages. Jetsgo will use three Boeing

MD-83 to service its routes, with a fourth to be added in the fall. Air Canada

has always held the position that given the opportunity, competition in the air

travel industry in Canada would thrive, and that consumers benefit from a

competitive environment.

Following is an update on what's happened with the Lockheed TCC so far this

year.

On the 16th and 17th of May, Capt. Patry, Capt. Norberg, Capt Dodds, Capt. Reid

and I completed recurrent training on the Lockheed at St. Andrews Manitoba.

On the 18th and 19th Cap. Patry, Capt. Reid and I then ferried the aircraft to

Toronto via Thunder Bay, remained overnight, then on to Leamington next morning

to participate in the community sponsored airfest.

Morning of the 21st we (Capt. Patry, Capt. Reid and I) departed Leamington for

Brampton . There Capt. Patry disembarked and Capt. Reid and I continued on to

position the aircraft in Montreal.

Weekend of May 25th and 26th saw TCC at Lachute on static display for a " fly

in" of Montreal aviation enthusiasts. It was very well attended and the DREAMS

TAKE FLIGHT staff were on hand to support their program. I think the aircraft

was a highlight of the weekend.

Friday the 31st of May and Sat. June 1st, the aircraft was scheduled to fly in

support of the Starlight Foundation out of Dorval. Friday was a bummer day

filled with thunderstorms, heavy rain with associated winds and even hail in

the evening. Discretion being the bettor part of valor flying was cancelled !

Sat. saw a bright sunny morning and we flew flights which were full of keen

aviation enthusiasts. Although it was quite windy, the wind favored us by being

directly down the runway and so were able to operate until about 13:00 local.

THEN the wind got off the runway and decided to accelerate and  gust, with

gusts to 52kts.  Even the birds quit flying in that so we followed their

example and stopped as well.

All in all it was a successful operation. However

there were some disappointed but understanding folks,I might add, who had come

from as far as Ottawa to fly.

TCC is  running like the proverbial " Swiss watch" and has been polished

brighter than ever.  Retired VP Maintenance Bernie Gillies was there for a

flight but was one of the disappointed.

Starlight Foundation had eight flights scheduled over the two days and

accomplished five of them. They raised $5400.00 for the program and the Pilots

Crew Scheduling office, who coordinates the Starlight flights were pleased to

raise that amount.

Sunday and Monday, June 2nd and 3rd, the Lockheed will fly for DREAMS TAKE

FLIGHT here. Hopefully somebody will turn the wind down a few notches and the

operation will be "sked- routine".

Weekend of June 8th and 9th will see TCC in Ottawa at the Rockliffe airport

flying from the National Aviation Museum  supporting DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT. If

anyone is interested in flying there(in Ottawa) you  should contact  Roger

Guilbault at 613-565-1527.

Monday June 10th Capt. Patry and I will be flying with the M.O.T. inspectors

and then ferry the aircraft to Toronto. TCC will be in attendance at the

Canadian Aviation Trade show in Oshawa June 14th, 15th and 16th.

Alan MacLeod.

Today we received this news from Alan -

A.O.G.( Aircraft On Ground)

Everyone knows what that stands for if they have been around the "operations"

end of the airline for any length of time. Well for the first time in years,

Tango Charlie Charlie went "AOG" on Sunday.

On June 2nd, the Lockheed was planned to fly for DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT from

Dorval. The aircraft departed at 09:00 for the first of four flights. As it

turned out it was the first flight for the day and the last for the day.

In my first update on Tango Charlie Charlie, I made a statement "the aircraft

was running like a Swiss watch".  Well the aircraft perhaps didn't like being

compared to a watch, I guess, as on Sunday the watch stopped ticking.

The left engine fuel pressure began fluctuating and associated low pressure

light on. The pressure dropped to about half its normal value. We returned to

Dorval and investigated the problem. The problem was a sticking reverse flow

fuel check valve plumbed in parallel  with the engine driven pump and an

electric back up pump. Mike Clarkson, the maintenance engineer supporting the

days flying, removed, inspected, cleaned and replaced the valve. Fuel pressure

now normal. Engine run and operated normally until shutting it down. It was

impossible to shut off the engine using the normal procedure. It just continued

to run. To get it to stop it was necessary to select the fuel shut off valve to

the closed position and let it run out of fuel. In addition there was a now a

fuel leak from within the carburetor.  After Mike discussed the problem with

the Winnipeg maintenance staff, a decision was taken to replace the carburetor.

Tango Charlie Charlie was U/S for two days and is now just been returned to

service( Monday evening).

Maintenance engineer George Huntington, from Winnipeg, brought a replacement

carburetor and both mechanics installed it this evening.

Tomorrow if the DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT staff can round up their passengers they

will get to fly in the evening.

The aircraft is now running like a real Lockheed !

In my ten year association with the aircraft that is the first time I can

recall it has been unserviceable for more than a few hours.
