Subject: Re: Family Affair Denied Boarding
There has been no change to the Family Affair program with regards to denied
boarding. If a family affair ticket holder volunteers to give up their seat
they will be eligible to the same denied boarding compensation as a revenue
customer.
We are printing a clarification to the recent Horizons article - it implied
that family affair will be off loaded due to heavy loads - this is not correct.


In NetLetter nr 670 which printed the contents of the Family Affair program
from the March Horizons in web site achorizons.ca,  the information, on the web
site, for eligibility excluded - in error - son-in-law and daughter-in-law.

Gail Waterman  started with PWA in Calgary in 1978 and worked as Manager,
Passenger Relations there and continued as Manager, Passenger Relations with
Canadian until 1990. After that I worked in the Law Department, Cargo and
finally retired from AC Pension Investments department on Dec. 31/01.
B.A."Bernie"Reid retired Air Canada Mgr.System Operations Control
Although I showed the above job title which was the area I was best
known in over the last 10 years, I actually finished in my last year as Mgr
Product Delivery Psgr. Service International located at YYZ airport.

Ruth Stratton retired Air Canada Customer Sales & Service Agent
Joined TCA 03 Jan 55. Spent 5 years in rsvns and 31 at YVRTR
and enjoyed every minute. Reassigned to Miami for 2 winters late 60s and early
70s. Have taken full advantage of my pass privileges and still manage to enjoy
a few trips every year.

Star Alliance News:
Ansett Stops Flying After Takeover Bid Fails.
According to Aviation Daily, Ansett Australia stopped flying on
March 4 after the Tesna syndicate withdrew its offer to acquire the Ansett
mainline operations. This prompted the suspension of flights. The grounding
could erase an airline name that has been associated with Australian aviation
for 66 years. Two of Ansett’s regional carriers, Kendell and Aero-Pelican, will
continue to fly.

working for a Welsh airline. Air Wales, which operates routes from south
Wales to Ireland, has unveiled its first crop of recruits for the task of

The difference between these women and their counterparts on more mainstream
services is that all of them are no more than 5ft 3in tall.

Assigned to Vancouver after training.( North Stars)
Transferred to Montreal in 54 ( Super Connies )
Transferred to Toronto in 54 ( Vanguards)
Promoted to Supervisor in 67
Transferred to Montreal in 73 ( Management)
Returned to line duty in 80
Retired in July 88 ( 35 years & 4 months)
Unemployed for the last 14 years and loving it.

I want to thank my guardian angel for steering towards this career. I feel just
“ Super” to have been part of the Trans Canada Air Lines/Air Canada family for
all those years. I truly enjoyed  every minutes of it.

During those years, I accumulated close to 19.000 hours of flying in a variety
of positions and to many destinations.

After the company started flying scheduled flights to Bombay & Singapore ( 84
?) I decided to work these flights. I did so for a period of six months and I
must say that this was the highlight of my career. The people, the culture, the
vast differences. Extremely interesting  and rewarding.

In the early days of these new routes, we were fortunate to have 4 day layovers
in both Bombay & Singapore. That gave us the opportunity to explore these two
very different  cities.

I have wonderful  memories of my career and they will be with me for the rest
of life.

Thank you Trans Canada Air Lines for hiring me.

Just a comment on Fred Spriggs mention of the C119 in the hangar fire,
netletter 669. I believe that the R.C.A.F. called them boxcars not packets.
"Packets" is a term used by the Americans for their aircraft.  Stew Freeman

and John Rodger adds his memories -
Re #6 Hanger fire. If my memory serves me right I left the hanger the day
before on an RCAF flight back to my air force base in MacDonald Man. I was home
on leave in Lachute and it was the only time I went back by flying the other
times being by bus. My father keep a diary which I now have in my procession.
After seeing the stories about the hanger fire I thought he might have put
something in his notes. Looked though 54, 55 and 56 and in 56 he wrote Monday
Feb 6th.Took John to Dorval for a flight back to Winnipeg. So if this is
correct the fire took place on or about Feb 7th 1956. There must be some news
paper accounts of it as we had seen photos in the French news papers that were
sent to us at the base by some of our family members in Montreal.

PS That turned out to be quite a year for me . On May 28th I was involved in a
T33 crash ( My last week in the RCAF) and I started to work at TCA July 3rd.

. Are we there yet?
An English family who boarded five separate aircraft before finding one
that was safe to fly. The family were booked with British Midland for a holiday
trip from Derbyshire to Eurodisney nr Paris. The first two times they boarded,
everyone was asked to disembark because of technical problems. Their third
aircraft got airborne, but was forced to turn back. The family was then sent to
Birningham by taxi where they boarded an Air France aircraft.
Surprise, everyone had to get off due to mechanical failure. Their fifth
attempt proved successful, and they reached Paris nine hours late!

From one of our readers -
A 29 year employee traveling with a C4 was
removed from a LHR YYZ flight even though
he was the most senior on the list. The reason
given was that he had no checked baggage,
and all the junior passholders did. It would
seem to be prudent to check a bag to
prevent this from now on.

DON'T HAVE SEX ON THE PLANE: We're fully aware that if you've got your
heart set on it, a simple request from us isn't going to stop you, but
maybe the fines will. Mr. Alex Mtetwa and girlfriend Georgia Stevens
allegedly got a bit tipsy on their British Airways flight from
Johannesburg to London and then simulated sexual intercourse for all of
economy class. Upon arrival in London, the couple was arrested and the
judge took away Mtetwa's passport ... but he somehow managed to return
to South Africa without it, which is not a good sign for any of us.
