. In NetLetter 569 we mentioned about the DC10 Diner,
Wilson Quigley has this comment -
Subject: DC10 Diner
I think we (Air Canada) had one "three pilot" airplane before the DC10.
If I remember correctly the Vanguard had the rails in place for a "supervisor"
pilot in the centre behind the pilots..I don't think even the Brits ever actually
flew three pilots ..but I'm not sure..anyone know????

. From Vesta on the flight deck, some stories she found -
Men And Lone Children Don't Mix on Planes
British Airways has apologized to a businessman who was asked to
change seats in line with the airline's long-standing policy of not seating
men next to unaccompanied children on its flights. "It is our policy that
we don't seat unaccompanied minors next to adult male passengers
because it's something our clients have requested for young people
traveling on their own,'' a British Airways spokesman said recently.
A BA stewardess asked a business executive to move because he was
sitting next to two unaccompanied minors although there had been no
complaints from other passengers or the children themselves.
"We are trying to balance the needs of the child with the needs of the adult,"
a British Airways spokesman said.
"This policy has been in place for over 10 years now." He admitted it was a
delicate situation.
Thousands of air travelers faced a third day of delays recently, as British Airways
struggled to restore its computer check-in system. The system went down earlier
in the week, forcing British Airways staff at airports around the world to check all passengers in manually.
Flights from London's Heathrow Airport were delayed by an average of 45
minutes, the airline said, and long lines built up at check in counters.
One flight to St. Petersburg was canceled.

. From the RAPCAN eMailNews issued by Duane Frerichs -
Sandwich costs Air Canada pilot $400
A senior Air Canada pilot has been fined $400 for having half a chicken
sandwich in his bag after being nabbed in foot-and-mouth disease checks at
Pearson airport.
The sandwich was found by an Agriculture Canada sniffer dog who was
checking arriving passengers for banned meat.
Airline officials said the pilot had just arrived from Frankfurt and planned
to finish the sandwich on his drive home.
The pilot was fined $400 after being charged by Customs officers for
importing a banned meat product into Canada.
Many foreign meats have been banned from Canada because of the threat
of foot-and-mouth disease.
( We would remind retiree passengers of the ban on importing foreign meats
upon returning to home base - eds)
