If you're planning a trip to the South Pacific, be sure to purchase
alternate tickets before leaving home.
Our offices in Sydney and Auckland are operated by General Sales
Agents, who are unable to process employee ticketing requests.
Active and retired employees, eligible family members including infants
and children, and travel partners travelling on a standby basis should always
have valid travel documents and visas required to get to their final destination
and for every potential intermediate station stop en route to final destination.
Employees/retirees are responsible for payment of immigration penalties
incurred by themselves or eligible travellers, due to lack of correct documentation
or visas.
For example entry to the UK without a visa, when required, results in a fine of
GBP2,000.00

the occasion of his "Big 90" which is on Mar. 17.

Some of us from VR went over Mar.13 and had lunch with him.
His memory for things that happened right from his first days back
in 1937, when he was one of the first 20 pilots hired is incredible.
He is on a cane but otherwise in good health.

Oct 17 - 24th - Annual UK Pionairs trip - Smoky Special in Tennessee.
Commercial Vehicles Run this year is 6th May. Departs Heathrow Park Hotel
09:00 return 17:00. Unfortunately the vintage BEA bus has not been restored
in time, so the group will settle for a 1954 Guy 26 seater Special Passenger
Country Bus designed for the rural routes of London's countryside.
Cost of GBP15.00
Childrens Easter party on Apr 13th is at Burnham Park Hall.
Cost is GBP3.50 for Pionair families and GBP5.00 for friends.
Smoky Special in Tennessee, this years annual jaunt has over 60 Pionairs
signed up. From Oct 17th - 24th this motley group will be let loose in the
Smokey Mountains in a procession of mini vans. Accommodations will
be at Pigeon Forge - Dolly Parton's "Dollywood" is one attraction,
(don't even think about it!) and the Dixie Stampede, which includes a
meal and a show, is another.
Cost is GBP90.00 for one night at Atlanta, vans, attractions mentioned.

The buffet tables are sumptuous, and the salads are wonderful too.
Its a rustic family style restaurant with pleasant dining areas and rooms for
groups. Service is tops.
Our list of attendees is growing each month; its a great place to renew
friendships and meet some old-timers you only knew from a distance.
Warning:: sometimes it gets a bit on the goofy side.
Laughter and smiles all around !
Of particular interest is to invite and meet with widows or widowers of
those of our deceased colleagues. This has been shown to be a great
opportunity for the living partners to continue belonging to
"that-old-gang", and keep up to date with the latest developments on the
pass-travel scene, pension information, insurance matters, Airport
development, travel deals, etc., etc.
Hard to get-at-information seems to be available.
If you know anyone who are not in the Pionairs, as yet, please advise me.
Their names will be added to the invitation list.

Subject: Bristol Freighter
Greetings;
I read with interest the note in the NetLetter from Tom Grant about his
experience flying the Bristol 172 Freighter.
Some years ago, when I was a dispatcher for CPAir in YUL, the story
went around about a TCA Bristol 172 enroute from YUL to LGA.
After clearing from ATC enroute frequency, the TCA flight called Tower
at LGA for final landing clearance. The LGA controller acknowledged,
gave altimeter setting, wind direction, runway in use, and ended with
the words "Trans Canada 123, cleared to land - gear down and locked."
Whereupon the F/O on TCA 123 said "Roger LGA, gear down and welded."

. From the YYZNEWS issued by Brian Dunn -
Air Canada is reported to be offering the following aircraft for sale or lease;
the three 747-200 combis parked at Marana AZ, all 23 DC-9-32s including
nine in storage, eight 767-200s, seven 737-200s and and 30 Fokker F-28s.
The company intends to get rid of 32 aircraft by this fall in the face of 16 new
ones being delivered later this year. A total of 71 aircraft are up for sale.

the cost is a tad too high for him, Gord thought some of our readers may be
in the market!

does a new Boeing 747, or Boeing 737 cost these days. Well I have the
answer as per the e-mail I received below;

Prices are up 5.72% over 2000's prices. If that doesn't put you off, here
are some of the current 2001 prices, all information courtesy of Boeing.
717-200 35 to 39.5 million
737-800 57 to 64.5 million
757-300 81 to 89.5 million
767-400 125.5 to 138.5 million
747-400 183 to 211 million
777-200LR 186 to 213.5 million
777-300ER 201.5 to 231.5 million
All prices are in U.S. dollars. The spread depends on the configuration and
the types of options ordered.
A source in Singapore says these prices are usually discounted by some
hard-nosed bargaining. I suspect mentioning the name Airbus helps get a
good deal.

Being tired from playing.... Remember that?
The worst embarrassment was being picked last for a team.
War was a card game.
Water balloons were the ultimate weapon.
Baseball cards in the spokes transformed any bike into a motorcycle.
I'm not finished yet -- eating Kool-aid powder.
Remember when...
There were only two types of sneakers for girls and boys:
Keds & PF Flyers, and the only time you wore
them at school was for "Gym."
It wasn't odd to have two or three "best" friends.
When nobody owned a purebred dog.
When a quarter was a decent allowance, and another quarter was a
miracle.
When milk went up a penny and everyone talked about it for weeks.
When you'd reach into a muddy gutter for a penny.
When you got your windshield cleaned, oil checked, and gas pumped,
without asking, for free, every time.
And you didn't pay for air in the tires.
And you got trading stamps to boot!
When laundry detergent had free glasses, dishes or towels hidden
inside the box.
When nearly everyone's Mom was at home when the kids got there.
When it took five minutes for the TV to warm up, if you had one.
When your Mom wore nylons that came in two pieces.
When it was magic when dad would "remove" his thumb.
When it was considered a great privilege to be taken out to dinner at
a real restaurant with your parents.
When girls neither dated nor kissed until late high school, if then.
When all of your male teachers wore neckties and female teachers
had their hair done.
When any parent could discipline any kid, or feed him, or use him to
carry groceries, and nobody - not even the kid - thought a thing of it.
When they threatened to keep kids back a grade if they failed ..and did!
When being sent to the principal's office was nothing compared to what
awaited a misbehaving student when arriving home.
Basically, we were in fear for our lives but it wasn't because of
drive-by shootings, drugs, gangs, etc.
Our parents and grandparents were a much bigger threat! And some of
us are still afraid of them!
Didn't that feel good.. just to go back and say, Yeah, I remember that!
Remember when............
Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-mo."
Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do over!"
"Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.
Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "Monopoly."
The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties.
It was unbelievable that dodgeball wasn't an Olympic event.
Having a weapon in school, meant being caught with a slingshot.
Nobody was prettier than Mom.
Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.
Taking drugs meant orange-flavored chewable aspirin.
Ice cream was considered a basic food group.
Getting a foot of snow was a dream come true.
New abilities were discovered because of a "double-dog dare."
Older siblings were the worst tormentors, but also the fiercest
protectors.
If you can remember most or all of these, then you have LIVED!!
Pass this on to anyone who may need a break from their
"grown up" life -- TAG! - YOU'RE IT
