. Need to know.
When travelling, we must use the self-service Express check-in kiosks.
To ease the way for revenue customers, all active and retired employees and
pass-eligible travellers must use the kiosks to check in, where available.
Effective September 1, check-in service at the counters will not be permitted
for employees and pass-eligible travellers at stations with kiosks.

Regarding the recently announced C1 pass for active employees, the National
Executive of the Pionairs are actively monitoring this test with the company.
Meanwhile we would point out that the key point that a lot of people are
missing is if J is full, the J Class registered cons DON'T get on the flight at
all, even if Y is EMPTY.
Also, business passengers are using their Aeroplan points to upgrade from
Hospitality will certainly make the C1 pass less certain or attractive. And, if
the pass is used for LHR, then the C1 pass may (perhaps) attract the GBP60.00
departure tax inlieu of the gbp40.00 tax!
These are minor points at this extreme anxiety level for our retirees but worth
mentioning.

Robert Milton recently outlined various changes being put into place to help
the airline's bottom line, and the following comment is worth noting in view of
the new C1 pass !!!

Fleet Reconfiguration Air Canada is reconfiguring certain aircraft
types to compete more effectively in current market conditions. While
seat pitch will remain at Canadian industry-leading levels, the number
of business class seats will be REDUCED and the number of economy
class seats will be INCREASED. Almost 1,200 or 5.2 per cent additional
seats will be added to the reconfigured aircraft fleet.

. From the YYZNEWS issued by Brian Dunn -
Recently a rumour has been circulating that the Boeing Canada plant on
Airport Road at Toronto airport will be closing down their employee parking lot
and no visitors to be allowed. We have spoken to Boeing representatives and
they tell us there is no plan to do that, however they pointed out that since
it is private property they are doing the public a "favour" by allowing us to
park and watch airplanes from that viewpoint. The previously announced
agreement between the GTAA and Boeing apparently has not been finalized as yet.
At any rate, we want to take this opportunity to make sure you take your
garbage with you and don't leave it behind, even if there are barrels present
at the parking lot! Boeing is getting fed up having to constantly empty these
barrels and they do not have the staff to do it on a regular basis.
Furthermore, if you see anyone --- children or adults---feeding the seagulls
please warn them and stop them! This is becoming an increasing hazard as the
birds are attracted to the lot by the hundreds of people who buy some fries at
the local hamburger joint then come and throw some of them to the birds. We
don't want to lose this viewing point, but the end could be in sight unless
peoples habits change. THIS IS A WARNING!

PEARSON AIRPORT VIEWING AREA PETITION
The collection of names is still going on and the list is growing every week.
If you have not already done so, we would urge you to go to our website and
follow the easy sign-up form to have your name and comments added to the
petition. We also urge everyone to start writing and phoning your local Member
of Parliament for Ontario and for the Federal government and tell them how
disappointed you are that there is no definitive plan to include a public
indoor viewing area at "Terminal New" which would be accessible to anyone, not
just passengers. Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, and Montreal's-Dorval have
terminal viewing areas, but not at YYZ.
Visit our website at (http://www.canairradio.com/petition.asp) Follow the easy
fill-in format to add your name to the petition list. You are also welcome to
add personal comments.
Also, take a look at comments received already at

*** Iris Scanning To Speed Airline Passengers

NewsFactor -- Airline passengers will soon be able to pass
through passport controls in the blink of an eye, according
to EyeTicket, a McLean, Virginia company. The technology
already in trials in the U.S. and slated to be used at
Europe's largest gateway airport, replaces long lines at
customs and immigrations counters with a two-second check of
a person's iris pattern. A small sampling of frequent flyers
on British Airways and Virgin Atlantic will be part of a test
in October of the biometric booking system, enabling them to
avoid immigration checks upon arriving at Heathrow the busiest
destination for passengers flying into Europe.

. Found on the internet.
- The British government will order airlines to
accompany tickets for long-haul flights with warnings to
passengers of the dangers of deep vein thrombosis, a newspaper
reported on Sunday. The Observer reported that despite repeated
denials by airlines, the British government is now convinced there
is a enough evidence to link potentially lethal blood clots with
hours spent in cramped aircraft seats. The nation's transport and
health departments will launch the warnings scheme as a voluntary
system backed by statutory regulation if the airlines do not carry
out the order, a senior government official told the newspaper.

. May Day!
From: Alan Withington
Subject: Vancouver Island's Victoria Airport Parking
I have a query and wonder if you can help me as regards parking at
Victoria Airport. My wife and I plan to visit Newfoundland for just over two
weeks and will have to leave our vehicle at Victoria Airport as we now live
in Qualicum. We were wondering if you had any tips as to reduced rates for
retired employees for long term parking.
Thanking you in advance   Al Withington    <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>

. Smilie.
WHO? ME? FRUSTRATED? NAW...: Suffering an engine failure and
executing an off-airport landing from which all aboard walked away
should be enough for one day. Not for the July 21 pilot of a Velocity
kitplane. According to the NTSB, the pilot later returned with and ax,
"chopped up the airplane," then loaded the parts into his pickup truck
and departed the area
