. Need to know.
From the eMailNews issued by RAPCAN Duane Frerichs
A dialogue between Industry Travel and one of the readers -
Subject: New Pass Procedure.
I see where the procedure for making out our passes has changed but
AGAIN!

Upon checking my wife in for a flight this morning YYJ-YVR-YKA
( Kamloops), I had made it out Victoria to Vancouver blank, blank, blank,
etc. with the possibility that she might have to go to YYC and backtrack
which was the recommended way when we talked in February. I also
provided the agent with a computer print out of the record locator/PNR.

However, two Air B.C. agents told me the "new" method is to complete it
YYJ - YVR - YKA including the Carrier, Flight Number registered for,
date and also the Record Locator on each line of the original flight
coupon. They even told me that one of their husbands had done it my way
and had his pass torn up when checking in for a flight in Prince George!

I must have overlooked it in our Horizons somewhere but I have just
re-read all from January through June 2001 and only found on page 9 in
the February issue; "Your Ticket To Travel Made Easy". In this article it
clearly states "As the Audit coupon has been removed, there is no longer
a requirement to complete the first coupon of your trip pass with the
complete itinerary". I also understood it was not necessary to tick the
zone as your new computer would pick this up as one's coupons were
returned to the finance department. It also states that "The
carrier/Flight/Date CAN be completed on your trip pass if available" and
"The Endorsement area CAN be used to enter your PNR". As I considered
the word "can" to be optional, these lines were not filled in.

Could you provide me with the proper interpretation so that Duane might
then publish it on our Rapcan website? If the official interpretation
differs from our agent's, perhaps this could also be clarified for
them. I'm grateful that my wife's pass wasn't torn up as her husband's
had been.

Industry Gravel responds -

The procedures for completing personal and parent/partner tickets have not
changed since they were published in the February of Horizons and through
Payroll inserts.

I am forwarding your message to my colleague at AirBC to remind agents at YYJ.
Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

The 'reader' replies -

Am I to understand that what I've written below then is correct?
That is, the full itinerary is NOT required nor is the Flt., Date or
record locator on each line necessary? Also that the zone does not
necessarily need to be ticked?

Responded to by Industry Travel -

Yes - the pass system has much improved through an automated
processing of each flight coupon USED. Each coupon used is scanned
and recorded by flight and date of travel. After 90 days (which is
the validity of a trip pass ticket), the system tries to build the
trip with all coupons scanned for an individual, and charges
according to the trip taken not by the routing manually written in
by the employee or by the zone ticked.

However, it is always helpful to have the record locator available
when checking in.

. A comment regarding the Family Affair program by  L & M Guillaume
SUBJECT: If this is abused.

(Before purchasing Family Affair) But you should check all options as some ‘sales’ could be better. A limited number of Family Affair seats are allocated per flight the number varies by flight so you might want to plan alternate flights/dates in case seats are not available. There are no frequent flyer points, no stop-overs are permitted, and your minimum stay is the first Saturday or Sunday following the day of departure from origin, and the maximum stay is 60 days except for Hawaii, Caribbean and Florida destinations where the maximum stay is 30 days.

Further to the information on Kingston in NetLetter nr 600, Dave Shaw sends this -
"Also, the departure tax is not cash only, you can use credit cards but their
online authorisation can take forever.

Subject: Lockheed Electra update, July 1/01

Last weekend (June 27,28 and 29th) Tango Charlie Charlie flew twelve flights from Toronto Island City Center Airport in support of DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT. All flights full !

Capt. Ken Patry and Capt. Ted Dodds did the majority of the flying. Capt. Gerry Norberg flew on Sunday to help share the load and get some competency flying. Gerry is in the middle of an Air Bus A 340 course and has little time for the next few weeks to fly TCC. He was scheduled to be in simulator in Toronto Monday morning so volunteered a day off on Sunday to fly TCC. Good for Gerry.

Passengers came from parts of the USA to take a flight on the Lockheed. TCC is a world famous Electra. Folks from as far as San Francisco and Brussels have made a special trip to Toronto to fly in the aircraft.

TCC is in the hangar at Pearson until heading to the Maritimes later this week. First flight in Atlantic Canada is in Moncton. Then there is a change to the original schedule. Following Moncton TCC will fly in Halifax rather than Charlottetown. Halifax dates are 20, 21 and 22 of July. Flying from the Air Canada hangar in support of DREAMS. Then to Charlottetown now on the 28th of July. This was previously scheduled on 15th.  A Boy Scout Jamboree movement has the Air Canada Charlottetown staff working overtime on the weekend of 15th. They opted to move to the 28th.  So DREAMS flying at Charlottetown on July 28th.  Next stop St. John N.B.  on July 29th. Originally scheduled for the 28th, Saint John were kind enough to move to the 29th to allow Charlottetown to have TCC on the 28th.  Fredericton was originally scheduled on the 29th. Unfortunately they will be unable to participate with TCC this summer. Short and new staffing there have forced them to opt out this year.

. Smilie.

Lawsom Tremellon sends this information -
DUE TO THE EXTREME DROUGHT IN FLORIDA,  THE FOLLOWING CAUTION
IS BEING ISSUED.....

The Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife is advising hikers, hunters,
fishermen and golfers to take extra precautions and keep alert for
alligators while in Seminole, Osceola, Polk, Brevard and Orange
Counties.   They advise people to wear noise-producing devices such as
little bells on their shoes or clothing to alert but not startle the
alligators unexpectedly.   They also advise the carrying of pepper spray
in case of an encounter with an alligator.   It is also a good idea to
watch for fresh signs of alligator activity.   People should learn to
recognize the difference between small young alligators and large adult
alligator droppings.   Young alligator droppings are smaller and contain
fish bones and possibly bird feathers.   Adult alligator droppings have
little bells in them and smell like pepper spray.
