. From our chief pilot - Vesta on the flight deck!
What a good idea! (grin)
-- An airline in Japan has
designated a "women's only" section on its domestic
flights. Skymark Airlines said it did so in response to
complaints from women who felt uncomfortable seated next
to men. For women over the age of 12, the airline has set
aside up to 10 seats on each of its flights, according to
a report by the industry publication Aviation Week. There
is no extra charge for those women using the exclusive
seating.

. News from Air Canada Pionairs District.
Bob Belding sends this report -
Subject: Montreal Pionairs Spring Luncheon
Greetings from Montreal! The Montreal Pionairs held their annual Spring
Luncheon on Thursday May 31st. at the beautiful St. Lawrence Yacht Club in
Dorval. The day before Montreal set a new record low temperature with a high
of only 8 degrees Celsius. However the day of the Luncheon, although
somewhat warmer, was quickly warmed up by the congeniality of the 170
Pionairs in attendance. The Yacht Club presented their usual splendid buffet
which included salmon, chicken and baked ham. The highlight however was
dessert table which was laden with cakes, pies, squares of every
description. Diets were forgotten here!
John Rodger, District President, presented Pam Rosholt, Past President, with
a desk clock and pen set in recognition of her many years of service to the
Pionairs. Many door prizes were distributed, including the usual Teddy Bear
hand made by Ina Zuurdeeg and the Lady's Shawl made by Ina's sister Carmen
van Leeuwen. A raffle was held for 4 - 1 liter cans of Maple Syrup.
John Roscoe of the Montreal Dreams Flight committee gave a short update on
the up coming flight in October and thanked the Pionairs for all their
support in the past.
All in all a very successful Luncheon.
All the best, Bob

. Remember when?
The Vickers Viking aircraft was the UK's attempt to replace the Douglas DC-3 in
the 1940's.
Construction began early October 1944 and the first flight was June 22nd, 1949
registered G-AGOK, the UK's first post-war airliner.
The aircraft was operated by British European Airways and various other UK
airlines. Foreign airlines included Air India, Danish Air Lines, Central African Airways,
and the air forces of Argentina, Australia, Pakistan and the RAF.
The final operations flight was by Transport Aeriens Reunis registered F-BJRS
and the aircraft was broken up at Perpignan in 1979.
163 models were built,and one, c/n 112 registered G-AGRU is preserved at

SPRUCE GOOSE ALMOST READY FOR ITS UNVEILING:
The Spruce Goose (a.k.a. the HK-1 Flying Boat), Howard Hughes' infamous flying
boat, is almost ready for its public unveiling. Last September, the airplane was moved
section by section to the Evergreen Aviation Museum's new building at McMinnville, Ore. Although the historic airplane won't be fully refurbished by opening day, museum officials just couldn't wait another summer before the unveiling and is preparing for a June 6 public
viewing.

. Terry's travel tips.
Visiting Frankfurt?
Getting to Frankfurt Airport or leaving Frankfurt Airport by regional train is
an attractive alternative. The airport railway station is conveniently located
directly under Terminal 1.
The Rhine-Main Regional Transit System (RMV) provides excellent connections
to/from Frankfurt and the surrounding Rhine-Main region by S-Bahn (commuter train), RegionalExpress and StadtExpress (Town Express). The S8 commuter line has intersections with every U-Bahn (Underground) and commuter line, and with most
trams and buses in Frankfurt, the main transfer stations being Frankfurt Hauptbahnhof (main station), Hauptwache, Konstablerwache and Frankfurt Süd.
The average travel time between Frankfurt Airport and Frankfurt central station (Hauptbahnhof) is approx. 11 minutes.
Tickets can be obtained from the blue ticket machines at the railway stations and
must be purchased before starting your journey.
Average prices
from/to Frankfurt DM5.70, from/to Hanau DM9.80 from/to Wiesbaden DM 5.70

. Smilies.
A man enters a bank at Heathrow and enquires about taking out a loan for GBP2,000.
"What security can you offer?" enquires the bank clerk.
"Well my Ferrari is parked outside the Terminal. I'll be away on business for a month
Here are the keys."
Four weeks later the man returns to Heathrow and pays off his loan - GBP2,024,
includes interest. The baker says" I can't help wondering why a man of your obvious
means bothered with a GBP2,000 loan."
"Very simple," the man replied, "Where the heck around here can you park a car
for a month for GBP24?"
