Kalamazoo/Battle Creek and Toronto. This will be a daily, non-stop service.

Alan MacLeod sends us an update on CF-TCC -
The Lockheed is in Dorval.
On May 23 Capt. Ken Patry and Capt. Ted Dodds flew it from
Winnipeg-Thunder Bay-Goderich where they showed the flag and stayed overnight. On the 24th, flew to Toronto Island. Capt. Harvey Reid and
I flew it on to Dorval.
This past weekend (Fri. Sat., Sun. 1st 2nd and 3rd) we flew for
DREAMS TAKE FLIGHT. Unfortunately the weatherman was not that
cooperative and it was necessary to cancel two flights from Cedars
on Saturday and one flight from Dorval on Sunday. The rain and low clouds persisted and the ceiling and visibility we required was hard to come by. Notwithstanding, thirty seven people had a rather damp but enjoyable trip
in the aircraft. Others came and visited the hangar and spent time in the aircraft.
The weekend of 9th and 10th the aircraft will fly in support of the Starlight Foundation as organized by the pilot's crew scheduling staff.
Come by the Dorval Base and see some living Canadian aviation history.
The weekend of June 15th,16th and 17th the Lockheed will be in Ottawa, Rockliffe airport, at the Canadian Aviation Museum.

HEADLINE: IBM closes on airline contract

IBM Canada Ltd. has knocked away three rival bidders and become the sole
candidate to take on a daunting challenge - to knit together and upgrade
Air Canada's complex and often-criticized array of computer systems.
CGI Group Inc. of Montreal had been working with Sabre Group Inc. on a rival
proposal to try to land the outsourcing deal, estimated to be worth about
$1.5 billion over the next five to seven years.
Sabre used to run the computer systems of Canadian Airlines out of Tulsa, Okla.

a designer of uniforms. But is that what one prominent airline is going after as it
seeks to revamp its image? "Place your seat backs forward, your trays in their
upright position … and keep your hands off my tail." Standard flight attendant
patter? Not yet, but it could be next year, at least over the Atlantic, as
British Airways flight staff get fitted for new uniforms from a glamorous young
designer better known for dressing starlets in skimpy, sparkly couture.

Jack Cooke sends us a short update on the Pionairs A.G.M.
The new Exec is from Toronto. I don't know all their positions.
Fraser O'Shaughnessy is the President,
Mary Moore is the first vice-president,
Frank Marando was added as Treasurer because Irv Christjanson did not make it to
the AGM (being present is a requirement).
Then there is Ed Storrie and a lady I believe was named Watson.
It snowed on the Friday afternoon! but melted quickly.
They were expecting 425, but some Maritimers and Newfoundlanders had to cancel
because of fog.
Next year, Halifax was chosen over Anaheim, and the dates
were May 10 - 12, 2002. The hotel will be the Halifax Westin.

These are the Lunch places and dates for the next few months.
All meals begin at 1300 hrs but we usually gather sometime after 1200.
June 20/01. - Zia's in Summerland. About $12.00.
September 19/01. Storms Rest in Kamloops! 1502 River St. Take the Jasper
cutoff (Hiway 5) and turn left at the Inn and you are right there.
Lets try and have a good turn out for this one.
October 17/01. Ramada Inn in Penticton. From the north, just as you enter
Penticton at 1050 Eckhardt Ave. In the separate building at the
East side of the complex. $14.00 per person inclusive of tax and
gratuities. (The menu is NOT chicken!)
November 21/01. Gasthaus On The Lake. Peachland. 5790 Beach Ave.
From south, take right turn at first light which brings you to
Beach Ave.
From north- left at Peachland sign (13th) then right onto Beach Ave.
Hopefully, about $12.00.
December 12/01 . Note the earlier date. The Harvest Golf Club in Kelowna.
About $16.50. The Harvest is located at 2725 KLO Road.
KLO road is out in the Mission area of Kelowna.
This is our Christmas Dinner.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
Recently, we have had some difficulty with our lunches. It seems we advise
(that) a certain number will be attending and then when that number does NOT attend,
we are charged for our original number. Twice we have coughed up for shortages.

Finnair rejects SAS advances
Scandinavian airline SAS said recently it wanted to expand in Finland and
sought talks with competitor Finnair , but it was quickly rebuffed with a
retort that the Finnish company was not for sale.

Sydney----The Mercure on George St. $100.00.
Walking distance to most attractions, train station and buses just
outside the hotel. Also a booth where one can book day tours.
The staff was extremely helpful.
Brisbane-----The Mercure at $80.00 and also close to transportation.
Cairns--------The Oasis at $98.00, a four star as the Mercure was booked.
Close all transportation. We walked alot in Cairns.
A booth with many day tour info.
Melbourne-------The Mercure was most expensive at $165.00.
But very central and a beautiful park across the street.
All these hotels were a 3 or 3 1/2 star.
These hotels are an Accor chain and can be found on the internet.
Points of interest.
Sydney----Darling Harbour, The Harbour Cruise with stops at the Opera House,
The Zoo, Doyles famous fish restaurant, The Rocks, Art Gallery, Botanitcal
Gardens, The Governors' House,trip to the Blue Mountains (a safari), China
town, the mono rail, and Homebush the site of the 2000 Olympics.
Guided tours were from $8.00 to $20.00 with the day tours at $100.00
(it included meals and entrance costs.)
Brisbane----A bus ticket of $8.00 gave you all the transportation on city
buses and the Rivercat ( Boat transportation on the river).
Free bus loops the city and points of interest stressed.
One can get of and on ------sightsee and travel again.
There are many day tours---to the gold and sunshine coast.
Cairns------Day tours to the Reef, the Daintree Rain Forest,
The Kurranda railroad and back by skyrail are worth exploring.
These trips were$100.00 and included everything from meals to
any entrance fees.
Adelaide-----The Borrassa and the Mac Laren wineries are of interest.
Handorf, a German town, like St. Jacob's in Ontario.
Lots of history and culture of the first German settlers in Aus.
The Carrick House over looking the city is a relaxing and interesting
way to spend a half day. Many museums to see and the art gallery
is good. (We stayed with friends so don' know anything about hotels.)
Melbourne------A free bus trip around the city which gives you an idea of
what to see. Dinner on the moving Street Car ($60.00) everything
included is worthwhile but need to book well in advance.
Day tours to Ballarrat, the site of the gold rust and the Gold museum.
The Puffing Billy a steam engine trip with dinner at a famous winery,
and the Great Ocean Ride. They were at $100.00 with everything included.
In New Zealand we did a 21 day all inclusive coach tour which was booked through
"Interline" Very interesting country and friendly people. Travelled from
Cape Reinga on the north tip of the island to the south tip of the south
island.
The exchange ($) was excellent in N.Z. (Know how the Americans feel when
they come to Canada) and the exchange in Aus. was good.
Met many Canadians travelling way downunder.
Hope to go back and do the western side in the near future.

We enjoy news from around YVR where I worked for many years in IT.
Re the BA London Eye, my wife and I were on it last week - the regular fare
is 9 GBP and Concession (Over 60, kids, etc) 7 GBP. The ride takes half an
hour, and about half hour to get on (1 rev wait). Well worth a ride, as long
