We have received queries regarding denied boarding under the Family Affair program -
The Manager Family Affair advises us -

Family Affair is a Revenue Ticket to a certain extent, but
if the choice remains between a Client and a Family Affair
passenger, the choice will always go to the Client.
As far as the denied boarding is concerned, it is treated as a regular
revenue ticket since the Program itself is seen as incremental revenue to AC.

Industry travel sends this reminder-

Outside of North America, registration for self-ticketing employees can be done
through the local AC reservation office. This includes their self-ticketed
parents and partners. If the employee/retiree is non self-ticketing, the
registration is usually done by the local office and queued to either ECC at
QPB40 or Industry Travel at QPB00 for authorization.
In terms of reduced rate tickets, these tickets should be requested prior
to departure from their home city. Local airports do not have the operational
manpower to assist in building and ticketing reduced rate tickets for employees.
If they need to contact ECC to arrange for emergency ticketing, they must call long
distance 204-941-2887.
There is no e-mail option available as agents do not have access to e-mail, nor
are there any plans to provide this service.

Hotel Hoppa transfer bus service to main hotels nearby, fare GBP 2.50.

Rail: Heathrow Express to Paddington, fare GBP 12, journey time 15 mins.
Piccadilly Line Underground, one station for terminals 1, 2 & 3, one at terminal 4,
operates 0458-2334 Mon-Sat, 0547-2243 Sun every 5 mins (peak times),
every 9 mins (off peak & weekends), journey time 50-60 mins.

. News from the C.A.I.R.E. Chapters -
Subject: CAIRE Lunch April 11, 2001
The Annual Luncheon of The Association of Canadian Airlines International
Retired Employees, C.A.I.R.E. was held at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver
on April 11, 2001.
In attendance were 618 Retirees and/or Spouses. The numbers might well have
been greater, but we were limited due to space restrictions at the hotel. Just like an
airline, we even oversold a bit to take into account the 'NOSHO' factor, and all who
came were accommodated! Good payload control..
The April 11 Luncheon was the 'Final' gathering of the membership of C.A.I.R.E.,
as the Association will be coming to an end in a few months, and all Canadian Airlines
Retirees have been invited to become members of the AC Pionairs Association.
The scheduled Guest Speaker, Susan Welscheid - Vice President People AC,
was unfortunately but understandably unable to be present at the last minute, and
the role of Guest Speaker was very admirably filled by
Bob Petryk, Director, People Services AC, who presented a very positive future
for the New Air Canada.
Saville Hambleton, President of the Air Canada Pionairs National Executive
spoke to welcome all Canadian Airlines Retirees into membership in the
Pionairs Association - and informed the gathering that over 1400 Canadian Retirees
have already made application to Pionairs. Saville had a long career in Air Canada,
but he might well have made it in show biz as a stand-up comedian!
The organizing Committee of John Smerdon, Clare Ash and Ralph Sharpe,
and their spouses Bernie, Anne and Maria, did a great job.
A great variety of Draw-Prizes were donated - in particular a substantial amount of
money donated by CAIRE Chapter One, was used to ensure that a prize would be won
by at least one person at every table- (52 of them).
The feature Prize was a pair of POSPA passes, anywhere on the Air Canada
worldwide route system, graciously provided by Vicki Benoit of Industry Travel.

CPA First DC8 service Toronto - Honolulu was operated with CF-CPF Oct 30/66
Vancouver - San Francisco Jan 30/67 was the first scheduled service to
continental US.
DC8-63 registered CF-CPO was delivered Jan 1/68 and introduced on the
Vancouver-Tokyo-Hong Kong route Jan 31/68.
With the sale of DC3 registered CF-CRX on Oct 23/74,
CPA became an all jet airline.
AT Saulte St. Marie airport in Ontario, all major facilities, except ILS, commenced
operation on Aug 1/61 and the airport was declared suitable for Trans-Canada Air Lines
Vanguard service. Up until that time, TCA had provided service to the Saulte St. Marie
area to Kinloss Airport across the US-Canada border with DC3 equipment
since Jun 18/47.

Jet leaves with baggage handler in cargo hold.
Charter flights can be no-frills flying. But for a baggage handler trapped in the
cargo hold of a Champion Air flight to sunny Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the trip didn't
even come with a complimentary beverage or a bag of peanuts.
The unidentified man, a contract employee with Servisair, was locked in the cargo
hold, and he tried to alert the crew by banging on the door. Although the Flight 815
crew apparently heard the knocking, they took off on schedule Wednesday from
Dallas/Fort Worth Airport with the man trapped in the hold. Because the hold is a
pressurized area, he was not injured airline officials said.
The flight lasted 2 hours 50 minutes.

Have been a "Tourist" to BGI for 30 + years.
Always stayed at this place. Our kids learned to swim in the pool.
Never had a credit problem with the friendly staff. They have certain house
rules likes Housewares, so you request a Toaster, big deal!
If you would stay in Ocean-Front Apartments you could shorten the walk to
the beach by 2 minutes and the nights are a bit less noisy!
I am fortunate that I take a shower at night and probably use up all Don's
water for his AM shower. We have had some problems with hot water, but that
can happen anywhere, they have always been helpful and have done their best
to make it as comfortable as possible for us.
I recommend renting space there anytime.

With reference to Don Smith s negative experience (as reported in the latest netletter)
at the Rostrevor Apartment Hotel, Barbados, we want to put on the record that we
have enjoyed frequent stays of up to several weeks at Rostrevor over a period of
nearly 30 years, and have always been well treated by the courteous staff.
After the initial deposit at booking, we have never been required to pay for the remainder of our stay until check-out.
The Gap is definitely getting trendier and can be noisy at times if you do not have
an ocean-front apartment where the surf is sufficient to muffle the noise of the late crowd.
The apartments do have a broiler tray built in to the stove which serves as a toaster, and
we've found a warm shower sufficient in 30C+. weather.
Rostrevor has also created a spacious room with shower available to guests who
must leave well after the check-out time a service which is sadly lacking in many hotels.
The South Coast is pleasantly breezier than the torpid (and pricey) St. James Coast so much so that air conditioning is not needed. As for the secluded beach, it is a short on-site walk from the buildings and is clean, safe and private. As one of the many regular airline employees who have enjoyed Rostrevor for many years, I am sorry the Smiths found the experience so negative.

We travelled to BGI Mar 19-25 2001and showed up with no booking at Woodville Apt Htl
I had called and they were avail but didn't book account spring break luckily. They
were great, offered either a one bedroom or a cheaper studio(126us$) no ac with extra
bed( 17.00us$) and 10 percent airline discount. I travelled with 18yr old son and 15 yr
old daughter accommodation was a studio on 4th floor facing pool and ocean ,
fan overhead , balcony 3 single beds fridge stove and all pots and dishes ,
huge bathroom and closet , shower extremely clean and safe on Hastings ,
Accra beach next to KFC .on 24 Mar.
Air Canada changed equip and had 11dupoffs and we called and returned to Woodville
no problem and on 25 Mar they offered to hold room until 1hr after departure if we
needed it.
Great people I'd been there from 1971until 1982 and they are still great.

tour, the two controllers on duty happened to be women. As one began
