. Need to know -
Employee and partner travel could be a challenge this summer.
Heavy passenger loads are already a reality! As a result, standby employee and partner
travel will likely be extremely difficult and potentially limited. Employees should make
alternate travel arrangements prior to leaving home base.
As well, employees should ensure travel partners understand the travel partner program
prior to departure, recognizing loads constantly change.
(Although directed at employees - this concerns retirees as well! - eds)

. News from the districts -
Sheila Moscoe keeps us current with the T2 coffee klatches in YYZ -
So, just to let you know, on September 5th, we will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary of the T2 Coffee Klatch at the Golden Griddle.  The restaurant is going to have a cake for us.  Then, starting October 3rd, we will be moving to Tucker's Marketplace,
at 15 Carlson Court, Etobicoke, ON. Phone: 416-675-8818.  It is north off Dixon Road at Attwell (opposite the Delta Inn) and one block east on Carlson Court.  Very easy to locate, with it's own parking lot.
It'll still be $2.00 for unlimited coffee/tea.  And their buffet, which is scrumptious will be
$7.99 for us. They will also have a dining voucher as a "door prize".
It's still from 1100hr, but they will open the doors for us at 1030hr.  We'll have our own private area to visit (schmooze) and eat.  Everyone is looking forward to the move.  The parking wasn't very good at the Golden Griddle, especially during  the winter.  There's was located in a large office complex.
So, that's the update on the T2 Coffee Klatch...airport sales retirees.  Come join us!
Sheila

Irv Christjanson sends us the information on the   Burloak Koffee Klatch group:
The Burloak Koffee Klatch group celebrated their 3rd year in existance, on June 22nd,
with a BBQ hosted by Fraser and Rosemary O'Shaughnessy.  51 Pionairs attended and all
indicated that they enjoyed the get-together....even Fraser's cooking skills
(chicken and eye of the round steaks).  The festivities were interrupted by a 5 minute rain
shower, but this did not prompt anyone to jump into the pool.
The group congratulated Lloyd and Janette Dean on their 50th wedding anniversary
(one week prior to the BBQ) and said a fond farewell and good luck wishes to Peter and
Jessica Blyth who have taken up residence in Kelowna BC (Jessica is currently working for
AC in Calgary and commuting to/from Kelowna).  They will be missed by the group.
A reminder that the next Burloak Koffee Klatch will be held on July 19th at Tuckers
Marketplace, in Burlington, starting at 10:30am, where visiting retirees are always welcome.
If you want further information about the group please contact Irv Christjanson at

. Found on the internet.
FREQUENT FLIER OFFER USED TOO FREQUENTLY:
A frequent flier offer that sounded like a great promotion has been great ... for the
passengers taking part.  Latin Pass, a program made up of ten South and Central
American airlines, came up with a promotion that seemed fairly difficult ... until one person
accomplished it in a week.  For about $3,000 and 27 hours in the air, Dan Hacker of
Maryland received 1 million miles, worth roughly $10,000.

. In NetLetter nr 498 we gave details of the volunteers at Kelowna.
Albert Sones wishes to set the record straight -
Subject: VOLUNTEERS AT kELOWNA
I must commend Bernie Danis for sending in a report on the Volunteers at the Kelowna
Airport, But I thought you may want to know the whole story,
The ambassadors as they are called was started last July 23 by Canadian Airline
Retirees in the Okanagan organized and run by myself Abby Sones,
I started with 16 Canadian retirees and then asked Air Canada Retirees if they wanted to
join us, which we got the six that Bernie mentioned, now we have friendly friends and
neighbours also doing the job for a total of 50 volunteers working seven days a week.
Retirees from Canadian Airlines are:
Abby Sones, Russ and Dorothy Bass, Olga Byrnes,  Ken Dewerson,  Dan Dyer,
Bob Eddie,  Fred Fairhall,  Catherine Hache,  Gudy Hohenwarter, Margaret Jeffrey,
John & Maureen Johnson,  Ruth & Hugh Montgomery,  Ian Rennie,
So if anyone in the Okanagan Area is interested in joining our group and it doesn't
matter which airline you are from you should call the coordinator
Abby Sones at 250-712-1634 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
By the way the Kelowna airport expansion of 40,000 sq. ft.
was officially opened on Fri. June 30.

.   Gilles Bolduc seeks help for these two questions -
* Do you know if the company is considering or has considered having employees register for flights via the internet. Oh how great it would be not having to wait for service for sometimes hours and how much time we could save the company with res agents having to deal with our tel. calls.
* It is my understanding that there are new codes for the airline industry. Question: is this correct? if it is, is there a way of getting the new codes?

. Terry's travel tips.
The Star Alliance™ network expands.
On July 1, British Midland and Mexicana de Aviación joined the Airline Network for
Earth. British Midland, the UK’s second largest scheduled carrier, serves 32 destinations
throughout Europe from its London Heathrow hub. Mexicana, Mexico’s oldest airline,
maintains a route network covering 50 destinations in nine countries.

. Smilie,
FLY THE AIRPLANE AND EAT IT, TOO:
Some chickens at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, Nev., didn't run fast
enough. Seems that one of the airport vendors is doing something just a tad, well, different.
A Burger King there recently started serving airplane-shaped Chicken Tenders.
This leads to a question it might take Superman to answer: "Is it a bird or is it a plane?"
