. Remember when?
On Wednesday November 2, 1966 the first regularly scheduled Canadian air service
commenced operating into Moscow. Air Canada flight 876 departed Montreal on
the evening of November 1st and upon landing in Copenhagen, a crew change took
place. The crew for the Copenhagen-Moscow-Copenhagen sectors consisted of
Captain W.R.Bell, Air Canada Operations Manager, Montreal; Captain P.C.Hamilton.
and First Officer Bill Gleboff.
The inaugural flight by Aeroflot from Moscow to Montreal was operated by the
Tupolev 114 and officially welcomed by Air Canada represented by Captain Bill Bell,
andCaptain  Art Tonkin. The aircraft was parked at gate 31. The TU114 was, at that
time, the largest passenger turboprop aircraft in the world. To reach the passenger
doors, Air Canada had to weld ten extra steps on the top of their truck mounted,
mobile stairs. A greyhound bus could be driven under the belly of the aircraft,
between the extra-wide, massive main gears, and yet the wings drooped down low
enought to be touched by an above average tall person.

. Terry's travel tips.
Hoping to visit Amsterdam when the flights start up?
Getting to and from Schiphol
At Amsterdam Schiphol, we've made it our business to guarantee you a smooth, comfortable
and hassle-free journey. Passengers taking an onward flight can choose from 80 airlines serving
over 220 destinations, while those not transferring onwards have access to excellent road or rail
connections,  Europe's main road network leads to Schiphol's front door, while the railway station
is located in the terminal itself, in Schiphol Plaza.
Train connections
Schiphol is linked by rail to 75 per cent of all railway stations in the country, either direct or with
one  change, as well as to major cities in Belgium, France and Germany.
Taxis
Taxis are plentiful, convenient and available just outside the Arrivals hall
Buses
The airport has regular services to Amsterdam and other cities.
Hotel courtesy buses are also available. Bus station is located in front of Schiphol Plaza.
Road links
Schiphol is close to one of Holland's chief north-south arteries, the A4 motorway linking Amsterdam,
The  Hague and Rotterdam. A network of motorways links Schiphol to all Europe's principal cities and
economic centres.
Visiting Holland
If you are a transfer passenger with more than four hours between flights, you may decide to leave the
airport building. (We do not recommend leaving the airport if your stay is shorter.) Just follow the "Exit"
signs to the immigration desk - in some cases a special exit visa may be required. Pass through
Immigration and Customs into the Arrivals Hall and Schiphol Plaza.
Surprising Amsterdam is just 18 km away, a mere 20 minutes by train. Your four spare hours would give
you enough time to experience the one-hour canal boat tour (departure points opposite Amsterdam
Central Station) or simply to watch the city's street life go by.
Trains to Amsterdam Central Station depart every 15 minutes from Schiphol Plaza. The return fare is
around 10.50 guilders.
The taxi rank is outside Schiphol Plaza. A single taxi fare to Amsterdam is approximately 55 guilders.
