. Need to know.
Neil Hopkins - Manager, Human Resources - Europe issued the following
caution to the employees in Europe -
We would like to bring to the attention of all employees/retirees
a serious misunderstanding regarding our Travel Partner program.
It is clearly stated in the Travel Partner Policy document that the
company considers 'the transfer of one's travel partner allotment to
any other employee/retiree to be a serious misuse of travel privileges.
This entitlement is for the purpose of providing a special privilege
equally to each employee and this privilege is not to be transferred,
sold or bartered'.
It has been reported that numerous employees/retirees are giving their
partner passes to other employees or have been solicited by other
employees/retirees to give their partner passes.
A number of employees/retirees have lost their travel privileges for
this type of misuse.
The penalty is a MINIMUM of two-year suspension of ALL travel privileges
to the employee/retiree who transfers the allotment and a MINIMUM of
a three-year suspension to the one who solicits partner tickets from
another employee/retiree.
(Unfortunately, if this continues, we are sure the company will withdraw
this privilege from everyone. So why spoil it for yourself and, in
particular, everyone else! PLEASE don't be greedy or selfish! - eds)

. From the YYZNEWS issued by brian Dunn -
Air Canada will add a second daily non-stop service between Montreal
(YUL) and Los Angeles effective May 1st with an A319 departing at
1830hrs and arriving at LAX at 2115hrs.  The return flight will be an
over-night departing LAX at 2300hrs and arriving at Montreal at 0700hrs
the next day.
Air Canada has entered into some wet-lease agreements with Canadian
Airlines.   Canadian aircraft and crews will operate flights effective
April 20th on Calgary-San Francisco, Vancouver-San Francisco, and
Edmonton-Los Angeles routes but the flights will be sold as Air Canada
and be handled in the Air Canada RES system.

Canadian Airlines has secured a 4-year contract to do heavy
maintenance checks on Air Jamaica A310s at their Vancouver facility.
Canadian still has a long-term contract to work on the Canadian Armed
Forces A310 fleet as well.   The Canadian Airlines cargo office has been
closed at London-Heathrow and operations have been consolidated into
the Air Canada warehouse.

. Recently Fraser O'Shaughnessy at YYZ enquired about the 'Green Jacket'
brigade who operate at Vancouver International Airport.
Alan Rust explains their function -
I just talked to a couple of Green Jackets up in the terminal and
they gave me the following info.
- the person that runs the program in YVR is Erin Lindsay.
- they have 300 Green Jackets presently working in YVR
- the program has been operational for 10 years
- they have a waiting list of over 150 people
- they are all volunteers
- although most are retirees, they don't have to be and they don't
have to be ex airline employees either
- you get a sweater for the first two years (as YVR ID) and after you
have put in 2 years and proved dependable you then get a "green
jacket".

Fraser is interested in setting up a similar scheme at Toronto
Pearson International - his response (in part) -
I will start compiling the "Blue Sweater" volunteer list immediately.
In the next week I will contact the GTAA, Air Canada, Canadian Airlines
Management,  Pionair Executive Management, and the CAW to obtain their
agreement and support to proceed further with the organization of this
volunteer organization. Please spread the word that I am now accepting
names of volunteers by e-mail.

. From the YYZNEWS issued by Brian Dunn -
Air Canada will be launching a new non-stop service between YYZ and
Munich Germany on June 5th with a daily 767-200ER aircraft.
Star Alliance partner Lufthansa will code-share on the route and look
after the ground handling at Munich.

From Robert Milton's speech (in part) ......    When the A340-500
joins the fleet in 2002 Robert sees opportunities for such far-flung
routes as Vancouver-Sydney, Singapore, and New Delhi, and Toronto to
Johannesburg.  Air Canada would continue to operate the A330 alongside
the Boeing 767-300, but was looking at disposing of its 767-200s for
conversion into freighters.

Air Canada brought back 747-433 (C-GAGL) from Paris-Orly on the
29th signalling an end to the agreement with Air France to do heavy
maintenance on these aircraft.  The same evening 747-433 (C-GAGM) was
sent to Canadian Airlines hangar at Vancouver for some major
maintenance to be done on its landing gear.
As a side note, the 747 (C-GAGL) went up on a test flight on the 28th of
March out of Orly and landed at Nice in southern France for about
45 minutes to fuel up again before returning to Paris.
A rare visitor at Nice for the local aviation photographers.

Air Ontario announced that effective May 8th  Air Georgian (dba as
Air Alliance) will commence three times per weekday service between
Toronto and Ft.Wayne IN.  Previously, there were plans to operate to
South Bend IN, but this route has now been switched to Ft.Wayne instead.

AIRLINERS and AVIATION COLLECTABLES SHOW
Saturday, May 13, 2000        1000  to 1500hrs
Held at Royal Canadian Legion hall at 3263 Derry Rd. E., Malton

. Smilie.
Neil Gilson <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>  sends this for us -
This is a true story and happened one evening when I was working the
dedicated Flight Arrivals phone line back in the 60's at 130 Bloor Street
in Toronto.
The call went something like this: -
Me:  "Good evening, TCA Flight Arrivals.  May I help you?"
Customer:  "Yes, could you tell me what time flight 850 arrives from
Vancouver?"
Me:  "Yes, ma'am, the scheduled arrival time is 6:50 pm, but at the
moment the flight is operating 45 minutes early and the
present estimated arrival time is 6:05 pm."
Customer:  "Oh my goodness, I guess I'd better hurry then.
By the way, why is the flight so early?"
Me:  "The flight is early because of a tailwind."
Customer:  "Oh!  (slight pause)  That's wonderful.
Why don't you people put those on all your aircraft?"
Neil Gilson.
