. Rumour mill -
February 11, 2000 No 7

Rumour: Seniority lists will be merged.
Truth: As Robert stated in his message to employees on February 10,
there are no plans for merging seniority lists: "I want to be very
clear about this. I have no interest in forcing merged seniority lists
on anyone. If the majority of employees want it, we'll do it. But if
you decide it's not in your best interest, I'll accept that too." To
hear Robert's entire message, call the InfoLine in North America at
(877) 234-4636, or outside North America at (514) 422-4636.

Rumour: AC is merely satisfying the Canadian government by trying to
restructure CDN, but will ultimately put them into receivership.
Truth: This is completely false. As Robert has stated many times, Air
Canada is committed to restructuring the debt and other long-term
obligations of Canadian Airlines.

Rumour: AC is increasing its debt to assist CDN's financial problems.
Truth: This is false. Here is an excerpt of Robert's message to
employees on February 2, 2000: "I know many_employees are concerned
about the amount of funding being channeled to Canadian. I want to
reassure you that Air Canada is getting good value for its money. The
bottom line is, Air Canada's finances are not being compromised in any
way."

Rumour (a): AC and CDN reservation offices will be merged into the
same buildings.
Rumour (b): CDN's lease in YUL is up for their call centre, and their
agents will be moving into AC's Call Centre in Place Vendome.
Truth: The AC/CP Call Center integration team is currently reviewing
opportunities to make better use of under-utilised AC and CP Call
Center and City Ticket Office facilities. As the integration team is
currently in the initial phase of facilities review, we have not
completed the evaluation of various options and, therefore, no
decisions have been made.

Rumour: With WestJet starting operations in Hamilton, AC will now be
blocked from starting a low-cost carrier.
Truth: For domestic flying, the Canadian Competition Bureau's
conditions for Air Canada's start-up of a low cost carrier in Eastern
Canada specifically exclude WestJet. If a carrier other than WestJet
begins operations in Eastern Canada, Air Canada is prohibited from
starting a domestic low-cost carrier operation until September 30,
2001. If no other airline, or if WestJet is the only carrier to begin
operations, Air Canada is permitted to begin operating domestically
after September 30, 2000. Air Canada is not prohibited in any way from
starting a low cost carrier for Transborder routes.

Rumour: AirBC is going to be sold.
Truth: AirBC is part of the consolidation of the Air Canada Regionals
(AirBC, Air Ontario and Air Nova), announced on January 19. Robert
Milton is on record as saying AC has no intention of selling its
regional carriers.

. Info wanted!
John Gallagher would like some information -
Could someone spell out the various maintenance checks that our
aircraft have. I know there is a daily, and think there is a 100 hour
but are some yearly or every few years or so many hours.
Some have most parts removed. Some were called A,B, or C, etc.,
Would appreciate a simple answer.

. Help!
Henry Hanson sends this information -

>From: Henry Hansen <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>
..... my first flight was on an Air Canada DC8 from Calgary to Montreal
- and then to Copenhagen back in 1971 at age 11.
The flight that really caused me to discover how much I loved aviation
was on the return flight from Copenhagen to Edmonton.  We had a stabilizer
problem and were diverted to Heathrow for an overnight delay.  If I had
the date, is there anyway you could tell me which DC8 that was (C-FTIL for
example)?  It would be neat to know what became of that aircraft.
Many thanks,  Henry Hansen. <This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.>

. Smilie.
Lawson Tremellen sends this along -
Subject: More Dr Seuss
If a packet hits a picket on a socket on a port,
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort,
and the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
and your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
then your situation's hopeless and your system's gonna crash!
If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
but your packets want to tunnel on another protocol
that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall,
and your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss,
so your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'cause as sure as I'm a poet,
the sucker's gonna hang!
When the copy of your floppys getting sloppy on the disk,
and the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM  your ROM.
Quickly turn off your computer and be sure to tell your mom!
