The Good News:
We are please to announce the new website for all TCA/Air Canada Retired
Employees at: http://www.acra.ca/acrew
To serve ALL retirees of TCA and Air Canada, we have designed and put
online a new website "A-Crew" Air Canada Retired Employees Website. We have
made a number of significant changes:
A frames format for easier navigation.
Emphasis on photo galleries - past and present images. People, Places and
Aircraft.
Deletion of links except to the new AVIA Aviation Links (a significant
revision to Tom Grant's Aviation Links.)
Bulletins & News - short and timely.
Contacts Page to be continued.
Travel Page (Members section of ACRA) to be continued.
Better listing of events and cross-linked to ACRA events.
Presentation of an edited version of the current issue of the NetLetter
and reduced overlapping of information with the NetLetter.

. ACRA web site up and running!
It's official! The Air Canada Recreation Association WWW site is open for
business at www.acra.ca
A gathering place for all ACRA members, Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and
London, Eng. are currently on-line, with more stations planned once e-mail
contacts are established. You can find out where and when events are being
held in ACRA stations worldwide. An ever-growing ACRA mailing list (now
with over 180 members) is also available for members to "talk" to each
other in a private area over the Internet.
The Members area contains travel info and discounts. In the Contact area,
you can get the e-mail addresses of other ACRA and retired AC members. Also
included on the site are pages for the AC Retirees, the Between Yourselves
NetLetter, (the e-mail netletter for AC retirees) and for aircraft nuts,
"Tom Grant's Aviation Links".
The ACRA site and its asspoiated web pages are maintained by Alan Rust,
YVR Tech Ops, the AC Retirees and Aviation Webmaster is Tom Grant (ex Air
Canada), while Vesta Stevenson and Terry Baker, both AC retirees, produce
the NetLetter.

Subject: TCA Alumni
We just returned from a very enjoyable annual gathering of
TCA Alumni at St.Petersburg Beach, Florida. Unfortunately attendance small
around 45 due to low dollar and requirement to have worked for TCA (before
1965). Mary Emerson of Nova Scotia succeeded Morley Ryder as president and
will send out questionnaire seeking advice for its future plans and status.

We're still looking for people interested in helping to form a "Soaring
Club" in YVR, for more information visit:

With that suggestion in mind, maybe the following story may be of interest!
An intrepid glider pilot took off from a popular gliderport for a local
soaring flight. After waiting a while to ensure soaring conditions were
adequate for an extended flight, his ground crew (and spouse) called on
the radio to say she was leaving the airport to run some errands. His
reply indicated that he had to land soon to make a "phone call."
Among glider pilots, "phone call" is a polite term referring to the need
to attend to physiological needs. These are usually handled in flight
by emptying one's bladder into a plastic bag. So, the puzzled ground
crew queried the pilot by radio: "Didn't you bring any baggies?"
"You don't understand," said the agitated voice from aloft. "I need to
make a LONG DISTANCE phone call!"

Hi you guys,
After listening to various groups talking about the year "2000",
and all the plans that some folk are organizing to celebrate the
"New Dawn", I was wondering if Air Canada, the Pionairs, ACRA ,
had given any thought to some kind of celebration for Air Canada
or its employees.
It could be a very interesting challenge to come up with one or
more ways that we can get together and do something quite different
or even out of the ordinary.
We have a multitude of talent at our disposal, more than we even
need, it just has to be 'awakened'. I expect one might be quite
surprised at what we could achieve.
Given the size and resources of OUR airline, coupled with the
brainpower that we have you might be very nicely surprised.
Just thought I would send in a suggestion...

. Brian Dunn sends us some news from YYZ -
Air Canada flew its last 747-133 to Miami on 18Nov (C-FTOC/FLN303)
from YUL where it will have its engines taken off (for P&W) and the
airframe will be cut up for spares and scrap metal.
Northwest Airlines completed its acquisition of a majority voting
stake in Continental Airlines which gives NWA a 14percent stake in
Continental.

E-STAMPS ON THE WAY
E-Stamp Internet Postage has struck deals with America Online,
CompuServe and Digital City to offer online postage stamp service to
their members. E-Stamp offers a technology that allows Internet users to
purchase postage online and print "digital stamps" on envelopes, labels,
or directly onto a document, using a standard printer. The U.S. Postal
Service has approved the E-Stamp system for test markets, and the
company plans to roll out its service nationwide next year. (Investor's

EVASIVE ACTIONS INJURE PAX:
Five pax aboard a Japan Transocean Air flight were seriously injured last
week when the pilot maneuvered hard to avoid an oncoming airplane.
One woman suffered a broken neck; another, a broken hip. The Boeing 737
was on a flight from Miyakojima Island in southwestern Japan to Tokyo.

A NIC FIT, FIGHTING RAGE WITH A RUSH:
German airline pilots have come up with an idea to fight the increasing
cases of "air rage" -- hand out nicotine patches to cig-starved pax and cut
down on the amount of hooch served during flights. The head of Germany's
largest pilots association says offering chewing gum to relieve stress
wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

AIRCRAFT ORDERS
Air New Zealand (NZ) has ordered seven ATR 72-500s from the Avions de
Transport Regional (ATR) consortium. The 66-seat aircraft will be operated
by Air New Zealand's domestic operator, Mount Cook Airline.
British charter airline Britannia (BY) has placed an order with for two
737-800 aircraft, with options for an additional five aircraft.
China Southwest Airlines has decided to acquire two A340 aircraft seating
370 passengers to serve its route between its home base of Chengdu and Lhasa
(Tibet). The aircraft will operate at one of the world's highest commercial
airports, with Lhasa's Gongkar airport culminating at 3,700 meters above
sea level.
Cyprus Airways (CY) has ordered three Airbus A319s.

UNUSUAL FOD:
Many pilots have had to dodge deer, dogs, or other foreign object debris on
runways, but a drunk driver? Motorist Luz Arce was about to come eyeball to
eyeball with the pilot of a 737 at Tampa (Fla.) International Airport when
crews chased her down recently.
Officials say Arce drove through a closed airport gate marked "Do Not
Enter" and sped off down an active runway, forcing the delay of at least
two flights. Arce was hauled off to the pokey to sleep off the sauce
and ponder her close encounter.
