. News from the Districts -

dateline: Wednesday July 30th, PIONAIR PICNIC, Vancouver Island.
Your pilot decided to take in the picnic at Mt Doug Picnic
Grounds.
When I arrived most everyone had already eaten, getting their
strength up for the mini olympics for the retirees. <G>
Before the games started I did some roaming and met Ken and Rosemary
Taylor, both of CS&S Front, where we had worked together.
Then along comes Frank Takasaki, also of CS&S Front, so I wasn't
among strangers. A few minutes later I introduced myself to Saville
Hambleton, past district director and had a long chat with Fred
Miller, still an active pilot with Air Canada.
Then the games started so I hovered around looking for Bill Fisher,
our present District Director, and found him beside the baseball
diamond.  We had a nice chat, mostly about  "Between Ourselves -
NetLetter". Then it was his turn at darts so  I reacquainted myself
with Nancy Walchuck, one of Pionairs Past Presidents.
I had only planned on staying a couple of hours but time certainly
flies when you're having fun.  I had been so busy chatting that I
didn't even eat my picnic sandwich so before taking off for home,
I sat in my hot car and enjoyed it and the end of my wonderful
afternoon with former co-workers and friends.
Absolutely perfect weather for a picnic in the Park.
When I signed in I was nr 43, so I think that's roughly how many
attended.
Vesta Stevenson.

From the 'Sentinel', Summer edition of the Montreal Pionairs -

The Spring Lunch Buffet held at the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht
Club May 21st was attended by about 100 Pionairs and guests.
Herb Guilfoyle Director of Montreal Pionairs took the opportunity
to thank Mary Guillaume for her hard work serving as the
Secretary and Editor for the Montreal District Pionairs.
Mary and husband Lucien are heading down the '401' - Westwards!
An elegant buffet was enjoyed followed by the awarding of the
numerous door prizes.

Russ Reynard penned a report on the trip to Quebec City, a two
day affair, May 11/12th, enjoyed by some 50 Pionairs and guests.
The trip was not without its excitement, especially on the bus
named 'Odyssee'.
Several non scheduled stops incurred to change a flat tire, a
muffler replacement and a stubborn engine reluctant to start at
one time. Tours of downtown Quebec City, Chateau Frontenac,
Ile D'Orleans and Montmorency Falls were amongst the sites.
Good eating seems to be one of the highlights, and several
Pionairs from the Quebec group joined in as well.

A disappointing crowd of 100 employees and Pionairs accepted the
invitation for the 'Family Day' at the Expos baseball Park. The
second annual gathering was not considered a success due to the
small number attending and doubts were raised for next year.

A Casual Fall Luncheon - at the Buffet Vichy Bar. This will be
held on October 28th at 11.30. All you can eat! choose from among
over 100 items - all for CA$7.95 pp - now who can resist?
Where? - 2901 Bl. Taschereau Est, Saint-Hubert. (514)465-0519.
Visiting Pionairs are welcome naturally. Reserve prior to
Oct 20th - call Herb Guilfoyle at (514)696-5286.

From a total of 5,840 Pionairs world-wide, the Montreal District
have 25% of them - 1,548 members.

Manitoba & Saskatchewan Pionairs.
A successful Spring Luncheon was held Apr 17th at the Viscount
Gort Hotel.

TENTH ANNUAL AIRLINE MEMORABILIA SHOW TO BE HELD AT NEWARK AIRPORT
The Tri-State Airline Historical Society (T.S.A.H.S.) will host
its tenth annual airline collectibles show on Saturday, September 6,
1997, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Holiday Inn Jetport, located at
1000 Spring Street in Elizabeth, NJ. The hotel is adjacent to Newark
Airport (EWR) and it operates a free van shuttle from all three
airport terminals. Newark airport can be reached from Manhattan
using the Olympia Trails airport express bus.
Airline memorabilia shows feature a large variety of commercial
airline items.  These include crew insignia, books, magazines,
postcards, models, slides, dining service items, ticket jackets,
timetables, children's wings, baggage tags, menus and air sickness
bags. While most of the items at our show trade or sell for very
reasonable prices, some items can be a bit more expensive.
Airline posters from the 1930s and 1940s, old crew insignia, early
dining service pieces and large travel agent aircraft models bring
the highest prices.  Items from "Fallen Flag" airlines, those
no longer in existence, are in great demand.
