THANKS TO ALL THE PIONAIR VOLUNTEERS.
Thanks to all the Toronto area Pionairs who volunteered their
time to the success of the Air Canada Dreams Take Flight program
that took off for Florida on May 6th, also thanks to those who
helped Air Canada with their Rapidair promotion Apr 30-May17th,
and those who helped with the Canadian Air Show at Toronto.

The 60th Birthday Party at Pearson Airport in the Air Canada
hanger will be on Sept 20th from 1000 to 1600. All Toronto
Pionairs are invited to attend. The committee is looking for
volunteers to help with the preparations. The party will be
especially catered to the children of Air Canada employees. A
fashion show of older uniforms is planned therefor they are
looking for uniforms from the past. If you have any, and would
allow them to be used for the day,  Contact Stan Molstad at
905-469-9857 or Nick White at 905-676-2114.

Heres a chance for Pionairs in the Ancaster/Dundas/Oakville/
Burlington and Hamilton areas to get in some golfing this year
by joining the 'Be Happy Retirees Golf Assn'. They play every
Wed until Sep 24th at the Flamborough Hills Golf Club.

European Union CONFIRMS OPPOSTION TO BOEING MERGER...
If Boeing goes ahead with the merger without the EU's approval,
the EU can fine the new company up to 10% of its gross worldwide
sales, fine European companies doing business with Boeing and
seize new Boeing aircraft delivered to European customers.
The EU's final decision should be taken next Wednesday, July 23.

... BUT CLINTON STEPS IN
US president Bill Clinton said the United States would refer
the case to the World Trade Organization or impose sanctions on
European companies doing business in the USA if the European Union
doesn't approve the merger between US giant Boeing and McDonnell.

NTSB AND FBI JOIN IN 747-100 TEST FLIGHTS
Two weeks of flight tests began last Monday with a specially
instrumented 747-100, the same vintage as TWA 800, in the search
for an ignition source.  Results of the tests, designed to
replicate conditions the TWA 800 jumbo jet encountered, are
expected in the coming weeks.

COFFEE, TEA, LOCK-UP? TWO CUFFED ON CAL FLIGHT
A woman reportedly got into a fracas arguing with an FA on a
CAL flight from Houston to LAX.  Her male friend allegedly served
up an unwelcome pot of java over the FA.  Between her kicking, his
pouring and her hints about armament, the duo got a free uniformed
shuttle out of LAX - in cuffs.

ValuJet's Flight 2003 from Chattanooga to Atlanta is a
Greyhound bus...

MIR Accident Report
After extensive investigation by both the Russian and US space
agencies, spokespersons from both organizations announced that they
have determined the cause for the accident which has placed the
station and its resident personnel in jeopardy.
In a terse statement at a recent press conference, Soviet and US
space agency spokespersons said Thursday: "We have concluded joint
investigations concerning this potentially tragic accident and each
nation's team, separately, has arrived at identical conclusions for
this incident.
The accident was caused by one thing and one thing only:
OBJECTS IN MIR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR!
