. The Air Canada restored Lockheed CF-TCC operated four flights
during this last weekend out of Dorval providing 45 minute
flights for CA$100. Some of the profits going towards the
Dreams Takes Flight.

From the OKANAGAN Newsletter we learn that their membership,
including spouses, exceeds 200, entering their fifth year,
something the founding couple Frances & Bert Gardiner can be
proud of.
February 14th they held their fifth annual Valentines luncheon,
attended by 56 Pionair and Chardonnay members. Guest speakers
were National President Fraser Muir. During this time the
following officers were elected -
Director - Bernice Horsman, Treasurer - Bob Horsman,
Secretary/Photographer/Historian - Doug & Marg Armitage,
Membership/Newsletter/Mailing - Ed & Anita McConnell,
Social - split among the Executive,
The Bonspiel, held Mar 5 & 6th in Kelowna entertained rinks from
Montreal, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Kelowna. The big winner
was Winnipeg. Guest speakers were Fraser Muir and Okanagan Director
Bernice Horsman.
New members to the Okanagan District are Ron & Audrey Goran
recently transferred from Vancouver now residing in Kelowna,
Michael & Josie Knight of Penticton.
Vistors to Penticton should recall that AirBC has handed the
route over to Central Mountain Air, and our passes are not
acceptable. Zonal fares only apply to this service. Ya boo!
The Okanagan group have a 'Muffin Break' on the first Tuesday
of each month at 10.00 in Kelowna and Vernon. The Penticton
Pionairs meet at Tim Hortons near Cherry Lane Shopping Mall.
ALL are welcome.
Next event for this district is the Second Annual Systems Golf
held at Penticton June 17th & 18th. Call Don Graham for more

Bob Robbins of the Ottawa District reminds us that ALL visiting

or less. The Carlingwood Shopping Centre is pretty big, so I'll
point out that our restaurant is "The Family Restaurant" in it.

. Tom Grant sends us this update on Linda Finch World Flight -
DATELINE May 28 - World Flight pilot Linda Finch landed safely in
Oakland, California about 16:30 GMT, fifteen hours after departing
Honolulu. World Flight 1997 began in Oakland on March 17 and covered
a 26,000-mile, 20-nation journey around the world as a tribute to
the pioneering spirit of Amelia Earhart's similar endeavor sixty
years ago. The pubic is invited to meet the pilot upon her arrival
at Kaiser Air (North Field) at the Oakland International Airport.
On Sunday May 18 Linda Finch made a special flight retracing the
stretch of western Pacific Ocean waters where Amelia Earhart's plane
became lost nearly sixty years ago. The World Flight pilot left
Tarawa at about 20:00 GMT, flying in a Lockheed Electra 10E, the
same model Earhart flew on her 1937 World Flight. Finch's memorial
fly-over took place about four hours after Finch departed from
Tarawa.

Analysts say that Air Canada is one of the better investments.
Investors looking to add a North American airline to their
stock portfolio need look no further than Air Canada. Air Canada
operates one of the most modern fleets in North America, and
their stock has outperformed all other North American airlines
this year. Stock has risen 29%, UAL, parent of United Airlines
is up 27%, AMR. parent of American Airlines up 12%, while
Canadi>n Airlines has lost 13% of its value.
The bridge linking Prince Edward Island with mainland Canada has
officially opened. Under tolls, recreational vehicles will pay
CA$40, buses CA$200, motorcycles CA$14, and cars CA$35. Cyclists
and pedestrians cross free. Fees reflect round trip and payable
when leaving the Island.
CONTINENTAL BUYS BOEINGS...
Continental Airlines last week tentatively cut a deal to buy 10
Boeing 777 and 30 767-400 jets valued at about $4 billion. The
carrier will likely declare itself yet another exclusive Renton
customer, joining Delta and American in signing sole-supplier
agreements with Boeing for long-term deals for hundreds of aircraft
worth billions.
CANADIAN CARRIERS TAKE FAA TO COURT ON OVERFLIGHT FEES...
The Air Transport Association of Canada last week asked the U.S.
Appeals Court in Washington to prevent the FAA from imposing its
new overflight fees on foreign aircraft. Calling the fees
"unlawfully discriminatory, grossly disproportionate".
...WHILE CANADA POSTPONES FEES ON LIGHT AIRCRAFT
Perhaps as a carrot to the FAA and as a bone to U.S. general
aviation groups, NavCanada recently announced that its planned
imposition of user fees on light aircraft (under 12,500 pounds)
will be postponed until at least November 1998.
LOST AND FOUND: When Lynn Elliott's purse fell from her family's
plane over Westfall, Kansas, two years ago, she thought it was gone
forever. But, the purse was found Thursday, slightly the worse for
weather, by Aaron Suelter, 8, on his family's farm in central
Kansas. Next time though, Lynn, remember to secure the baggage
door, okay?

ATC to Flight 123: "Slow to 300 knots please." Then, ATC to Flight
123: "Slow to 280 knots," when it was apparent the crew had not
complied with the first speed reduction and was overtaking the plane
in front. This was soon followed by a request for 250 knots from
ATC when the crew STILL had not slowed the airplane.
Finally, the now frustrated controller said, "Gentlemen, the number
is 250. Either SLOW to it or TURN to it!"
