Cory McAdam is coordinating plans for the 60th anniversary of TCA/Air Canada and the collection of memorabilia: You may have noticed in the March issue of Horizons a call to active and retired employees for Air Canada memorabilia. With the 60th anniversary upon us, Mr. Durrett would like to have an exhibit of artifacts from the airline's past. As you may know, Air Canada dismantled its archives in the early '90s and most of the memorabilia was sent to the National Aviation Museum in Ottawa. While we may borrow some of that back for an exhibit, we thought we'd first ask for donations. We'd heard through the grapevine that there are many people out there who have items they'd be only to happy to give to AC, provided they could be assured their treasures would be well looked after. Well, we are now giving that assurance. While we do not, at this time, foresee recreating the archives, we do hope to receive enough items to enable us to vary the contents of the exhibit and possibly have it travel around the system. Ideally, we're looking for items that are of interest to those curious about the early days of the company...and that can be easily displayed and transported. Should you have anything that fits the bill, and would be willing to either donate it permanently or for the balance of 1997, please let me know at This email address is being protected from spambots. Alternately, call 1-800-667-7252 and leave your name and phone number, you will be contacted. Thank you for your interest. Cory McAdam. Found on the internet - Following on the story about the WestJet flight attendant announcement, here is another for you - A flight attendant got the passengers attention with this line - 'In the event of a change of air pressure in the cabin, air masks will drop in front of you. Once you have stopped screaming, strap on the mask like so and pull on the elastic for a tight fit." On the same flight, the attendants started a toilet roll paper race where passengers unrolled toilet paper rolls over their heads, passing it to the person behind. If the paper broke, the next passenger had to tie it together and continue to roll it back. (We assume there are no movies on these flights! - eds) And now one from your favourite airline - On a recent Air Canada flight, a flight attendant warned passengers to pay attention 'because we've been known to ask questions afterwards.' Then, after finishing the spiel in English & French - the latter so fast that crew members had to race to keep up with him, he paused and said 'OK, the cabin pressure changes and an oxygen mask drops - do you place it over your knees, ears or nose?' Later, as the aircraft landed, the announcement welcomed the passengers, then issued the standard warning about standing up before the seat belt sign was switched off, those of you who do will be fined $10 US or $535,523 Canadian funds. We hope you enjoyed your flight: If you did please tell your friends, if you didn't, then don't tell anyone.' When the sign was switched off the flight attendant said ' You may all rise.' AVIATION EXCISE TAXES RE-APPROVED, FOR AWHILE ANYWAY... Flying will soon be more taxing once again as Congress last week passed and sent to President for signature legislation reinstating expired aviation excise taxes. Reinstated taxes include the 10% tax on airline tickets and charter fees, the $6 international departure tax, the 6.25% domestic freight levy plus taxes on non-commercial aviation fuel. Taxes in the new bill will expire September 30, however. RETURN OF THE TRANS-ATLANTIC AIRSHIP?: If South African Jonathan Hamilton has his way, an airship may soon return to flying the skies over the Atlantic Ocean. The crew bus would arrive soon and there was no sign of the new young Flight Attendant, on her first layover. When the Senior F/A called her room to see if she was OK, the somewhat upset reply was "I can't get out of my room!" When asked if the door was stuck, she replied "No, there's no door to get out." She went on to explain "There are three doors. One leads to the closet, another to the bathroom, and the third door has a sign hanging on the knob that says `DO NOT DISTURB'!" ~-=o0o=-~ . That's it for this time, please we need your input, send comments and email addresses of any others who may be interested to Vesta with a copy to Terry. -!- Landing on an Island in the Pacific. _____(~)_____ ! ! ! <<<>>> Air Canada Pionairs ~Between Ourselves-Netletter~ http://www.mortimer.com/acra mailto:This email address is being protected from spambots.
