Jeppesen, who invented and perfected the modern aeronautical navigation chart -- and arguably the modern instrument approach procedure - died last week at his home. He was 89. Jeppesen, whose first pilot's license was signed by Orville Wright, began his career barnstorming for a flying circus. The air navigation charts he invented, Jeppesen Airway Manuals, have become the standard cockpit equipment in the airline industry and for most corporate and private pilots as well. Jeppesen sold his charting company to Times Mirror Co. in 1961. FOKKER'S HOPES FADING FAST: NV Fokker, one of the oldest and proudest names in the aircraft industry, faces almost certain death after months of inconclusive rescue talks with South Korea's Samsung Group, receivers said. From the Ottawa District Newsletter - The August 1st 'Horizons' reported a recent change in ID50 offloading policies that should benefit retirees travelling on ID50 confirmed space with Air canada. The change stated ' Positive space Air Canada discount customers (ID50) are no longer subject to off-load'. Ottawa Pionairs contacted the Employee Travel Office who, quoting from the manual, 'Although the System will automatically recommend these passengers for offloading in a deplanement situation, they should NOT be approached'. Also the priority for ID50 is P50/Y10 for Economy and P50/J05 for Executive. Stop-Over coupons have been revised - make sure that the 'in-conjunction' section is completed correctly to avoid any duplication of the service charge. If you are planning to attend the A.G.M. in Chicago May 23-27th, you may want to know that Air Canada is planning, daily, 1 flight YOW-ORD, 5 YYZ-ORD and 3 YUL-ORD next May. Cost for the event will be CA$589 per couple including 4 nights lodging and all events such as cocktail receptions, dinner-dance and the Air Canada Banquet.
