Anyone have any aviation type anecdotes to tell ? Here's one - Submitted by: Vesta From a conversation between Malcolm Coutts and Peter Cranston and extracted from a conference on NaNet. Mac: You asked about anecdotes from our former days in aviation. I was talking with a friend today about first solos of training pilots, and how they were always routine. Peter: Except for one I remember, when I was learning to fly at a small airport in 1946. One training school used Piper Cubs, which you may recall were two-place, tailwheel-type machines with seats one behind the other. For balance reasons, when flown solo the pilot had to be in the rear seat, so the instructor always sat in front. One summer evening a young girl was sent on her first solo. On final approach she came in too steep, banged the wheels on the grass runway and bounced high. She did the right thing, put on the power and went around for another try. This time, too low. Bounced again, went around again. I forget how many tries it took before she finally got it down. By this time everyone was out watching. We all converged on her as she climbed out. The instructor asked her what happened. Why couldn't you get the attitude right? he demanded, you had no trouble before. Well, she said, you told me to use reference marks, remember? Like lining up the top of the windshield with the horizon? I didn't realize it till you were gone, but for the glide angle, I was using your ears. That's Vesta's grin for the day. ***Flying is the 2nd greatest thrill. Landing is the 1st!*** -=o0o=- . Found on the Internet - Business Express had declared bankrupcy.
