Following story from Vesta Stevenson - as related by Peter Cranston of BigBlue BBS in Victoria Scene: the Air Canada counter in the old terminal at Ottawa. An irate woman is berating the agent because she just got off a Viscount arriving from the west --(sound of engines winding up outside as it prepares to depart)--and her bags aren't there for pickup. The agent guesses the bags are still aboard, so he runs into the office, calls the captain on the radio and says wait, we need to check the baggage hold again. (Sound of turbines winding down.) The agent runs out, opens the baggage door, finds the bags, runs in and delivers them to the woman.(Sound of engines starting once again.) As the woman heads for the door, the agent remarks how frustrating it is when someone carelessly marks the wrong letters on the baggage tags. "They showed her destination as Montreal, not Ottawa." In from the street comes a taxi driver, followed by the woman, in high dudgeon again, complaining about the outrageous fare the driver wants for taking her to the hotel. "Please," says the driver, "would you tell this woman that the Mount Royal is a hundred miles from here? That she is NOT in Montreal?" The agent runs for the radio. Sound of turbines winding down.... -=o0o=- . Airline Trivia: submitted by Vesta Stevenson Sir Freddie Laker airborne once again: the man who pioneered cheap transatlantic flights but went bust in 1982 when competition ganged up to undercut him, is back in business. Laker and Texas oilman Oscar S Wyatt, jr, formed the new company in September, promising to provide club class service for economy prices. Wyatt holds 51% Laker 49%. Service between Ft Lauderdale to London's Gatwick starts March 26,promotional flight only. Regular service will begin in May. Asked why he was starting all over again at the age of 73, Laker replied: "Probably lunacy...I like airplanes, I like people and I like sunshine. -=o0o=- .
