About us!
Since October 1995, Vesta Stevenson and Terry Baker have been issuing an email newsletter for those ex Air Canada types who have provided us with their email addresses. The Newsletter was created by Vesta, who gave the name 'NetLetter' and added 'Between Ourselves' - a TCA periodical with which you are probably familiar with from the 50's and 60's. It was then changed to "Between Yourselves" to avoid confusion when "Horizons" resurrected the name. Then finally simplified to just "The NetLetter".
We believe that our NetLetter, which originates from Vancouver Island, was the FIRST to use this medium to disperse information for retirees of Air Canada.
The NetLetter contains airline related information such as anecdotes or stories supplied by some of the recipients, Internet tips, travel news, cheap... excuse me, "inexpensive" accommodations, tours, interline travel, and, in some small way, we help keep our Air Canada family together and in touch.
Our 'NetLetter' is NOT sponsored by any Pionair group, nor are we seeking any financial support, only the Internet email addresses of those who would like to receive our 'NetLetter'. Please forward this to other retirees who can then subscribe right from the forwarded link at the bottom of this email.

Dear NetLetter,
Welcome to the 936th issue of "NetLetter". We now estimate that the NetLetter is read by over 2727 retirees when counting our email distribution and those that print the NetLetter and give them out to their friends.
The "NetLetter" is written by Vesta Stevenson and Terry Baker from Vancouver Island (see sidebar) and published courtesy of the ACFamily Network at www.acfamily.net

New online feature for U.S. paid employees and retirees. iPay is a new online feature now available for all U.S. paid employees and retirees. This new tool will allow for online viewing of pay cheque and tax statements. Certain basic status changes can also be performed through the site as well as "what if" scenario calculations. Complete information including details on how to register are included in a letter that is being sent to all Air Canada active and retired employees on the US payroll. More information is available on the Portal on the "My HR" page, under ePay or on the internet at https://ipay.ad p.com

Helping our customers with new security regulations. - The restrictions in place for cabin baggage has changed several times over the past week. It is important to keep up-to-date with the changes in order to ensure that we're providing consistent information to our customers. Some of the highlights of regulations currently in place include: * The complete restriction of liquids and gels in containers of any size as part of carry-on baggage. * Customers travelling to LHR are no longer required to claim their checked baggage and are now able to check their luggage through to their final destination. * On flights from the U.K. only, passengers are permitted one item of cabin baggage with a maximum dimension of 43cm x 33cm x 16cm (17" x 13" x 6.3" approx), which is smaller than our standard carry-on allowance. * For passengers who have connecting flights in LHR, carry-on baggage must comply with U.K. regulations. * Customers with connecting flights are still advised not to purchase any liquid or cream products from duty-free, as these items will be confiscated prior to boarding the connecting flight.
Checked baggage policy. The airports are currently experiencing high volumes of checked baggage due to the new carry-on baggage restrictions. In order to help with the high volumes, please try to consolidate all restricted items into one checked bag. Other carry-on sized items can continue to be carried on board. The checked baggage policy for employees allows for two checked bags per person with a maximum weight of 23 kg (50 lbs) per bag.
Another alternative to help your travels proceed smoothly is to take advantage of our employee discount with FedEx. FedEx offers all ACE employees and retirees a special discount shipping rate of 75 per cent off on a "space available" basis subject to load limitations. To send your shipment, a valid picture identification card must be presented at any of the FedEx shipment locations. If the FedEx agent is unsure about the policy for retirees, ask him or her to refer to DRS in COSMOS, screen 4, category 12, and use the keyword "airline" for a complete list of who's eligible.
Further information can be found on the FedEx website at www.fedex.ca or by calling 1-800-GoFedEx.
Buoyed by a 39.6% increase in second- quarter net profit to C$236 million ($210.4 million), Air Canada parent ACE Aviation Holdings announced Friday its intention to launch an IPO of a minority stake in the mainline and to "monetize" Air Canada Technical Services later this year.

Remember when...
|
|
Mirabel International Airport (YMX) was touted as the most modern airport and the gateway to Canada from Europe and Africa? Then the airlines shunned the airport due to lack on ground high speed connection with Dorval for internal flight connections, and favoured Toronto. Then Mirable advertised itself as the "White Elephant" and was used for cargo and charter operations.
Well YMX has got a new lease in life - as an airport? Never. The owners Aeroports de Montreal has agreed to become an 'indoor recreational multiplex" called AeroDream (Reveport en francais), complete with a beach, aquarium cinema's etc,. One attraction could be a ride on the baggage carousel, or a mystery bus tour in the "passenger transfer modules".
Remember the North Star? - Visit the web site for Project North Star Association for information regarding the restoration of a North Star at Ottawa Museum. This stamp depicting a TCA North Star was issued by Barbados to commemorate Expo 86.

Help!
|
|
On September 14th 1986, my wife was a Flight Attendant working an Air Canada B747 charter from Venice (italy) to Toronto. The aircraft hit a large flock of gulls just after takeoff and I believe sustained a flameout on one engine and a partial on a second as well as severe damage to the airframe, leading edges and flaps. After dumping fuel they made a successful landing without further incident.
My wife is attempting to locate as many of the In- Flight crew as possible for a possible re-union. Sheila Turner, Amy Fernandez, Claude Brussiers, Anne Michaud, Pietro Pricella, Krista Rahn, Erica Moghul, Lois Brooks Gino Farrugia and Bruno Ciaramicoli.
I cannot vouch for the accuracy in the spelling of the names.
Yours truly, Ken Bell. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

ACFamily Network contribution
|
|
Our issuance of our NetLetter has been handled by the ACFamily Network at www.acfamily.net for many years now, and in the last year or so has been enhanced by using software from Constant Contact. All this is due to the efforts of Alan Rust, webmaster for acfamily.net, who takes the editted version which Vesta and Terry issue, and emails your copy. If you wish to make any financial contribution for the operation of the acfamily.net, you can donate at: www.acfamily.net/donations
