Revisiting the McDonnell Douglas DC-8
It’s been a while since we have visited the history of the DC-8. I seem to go back to this aircraft from time to time because its story is always fascinating.
It was the first aircraft type that I flew on as an Air Canada employee back in 1980 at a time when it was destined to be replaced by the Boeing 767. Gradually the remaining “Stretch 8’s” in the fleet were converted to all cargo configuration and eventually fully retired.
I have always felt that I missed a significant part of aviation history when it was the class of the fleets of many airlines.
